Animals in the skimmer?

Is it possible for a shrimp or crab or snail, etc to climb up into the skimmer box and get sucked into the skimmer? Should I be worried about that?

I would think it would depend how and where your skimmer is set up. I don't think there is enough information here to answer your question. Is it possible sure, is it likely? cant say without knowing more.

skimmer box ? you mean the box the skimmer came in ? :P

I dont know of skimmers that suck from the top ... and we always have a lid on the skimmer, so cant climb it and go in from there ....

they usually have a pump, and if anything is small enough it can make it through the pump, most needle wheels would just tear it into pieces though. beckets would get stock with Small snails which stop flow of air. hence the more maintenance needed to make them run efficiently.

HTH,

oddly enough about 2 weeks ago i found a dead fly in my skimmer cup heh. not sure how it got there i guess it must have got sucked in form the pump or something.

This is a HOB skimmer and I am talking about the part that goes in the tank. Basically like the tank part of an overflow. It has the teeth and is maybe 1" x 2" opening on top.
