Anorexic Kole Tang

My newish kole tang will not accept food placed in tank, she loves to eat off the rocks but I don't have much if any algae left

Tried:

-formula 2, flake and frozen
-Clip, on glass, on rocks

yes I have, not on the rock but I jamed the clip between two rocks.Ill rubberband some on rubble tomorrow. Thanks though!

It is not uncommon for kole tangs to take their time in accepting food. A friend of mine recently added one to his tank. It took about 6 weeks before it ate prepared foods. Now it eats anything.

mine has been in for about 3 weeks, so that makes me feel better. Ill keep trying! During feeding time she goes nuts like all the other fish, she gets the point...but just doesnt eat.

Definitely start adding nori or seaweed selects etc (latter from LFS). Put a small piece in every day(on a clip), even if it doesn't get eaten.

+1 ^^ When the nori breaks up/dissolves little bits will float through the water. He'll probably snap up a piece and realize what it is.

FWIW I have a small scopas in QT that would only eat mysis. I kept putting the nori in the tank on a clip and he eventually figured it out. He is now F-A-T and loves the nori.

Bristletooth tangs like koles can be like this. Try presoaked small flake foods.

SDguy, iv been trying that. no luck. Maybe once all the natural algae is gone he will get hungry and go after the nori then maybe flakes. Thanks alot guys, i'm going to have to try all this out and see what works!
