well im going to set up a 40 breeder since i can get more fish then in the 29.
im thinking about these fish:

Cockatoo Waspfish (Ablabys taenianotus)
Leaf fish (Taenianotus triacanthus)
Pair Red fin Waspfish (Paracentropogon rubripinnis)
Ambon Scorpionfish (Pteroidicthys amboinensis)
Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus)
Fu Manchu Lionfish (Dendrochirus biocellatus)
Hawaiian Lionfish (Dendrochirus barberi)
3 Lyretail Anthias (Pseudanthias squamipinnis)

i have a 29 gallon sump for my 40 breeder clown/anemone tank can i add this tank to that sump, or will this tank be to dirty and need its own sump?

would i be able to keep pair of Kaudern's Cardinal (Pterapogon kauderni) or would they be to small?
how big of a tank would i need for those fish? 55 gallon?

A 3' tank is pretty tight quarters for all those fish. At the very least, I'd lose either the fuzzy or the barberi, the anthias, and the ambon. The ambon more by virtue of them being outcompeted, and probably intimidated by the faster feeders. Also, ambons don't have a great track record (the shelf life of our fish ranged from a couple of weeks to 10 months, and we've kept 4 of them).

As for substrate, consider #1 or #3 grade aragonite. #1 is a bit finer, but still "lays down" well. Neither grade traps detritus like CC.

would this work?

Cockatoo Waspfish (Ablabys taenianotus)
Leaf fish (Taenianotus triacanthus)
Pair Red fin Waspfish (Paracentropogon rubripinnis)
Fu Manchu Lionfish (Dendrochirus biocellatus)
Hawaiian Lionfish (Dendrochirus barberi) or Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus)
pair Kaudern's Cardinal (Pterapogon kauderni)

I think your going to have a problem having the lions in the tank with the others you have listed. If nothing more the lions WILL prevent the majority of the food reaching the waspfish and especially the leaf fish which are usually pretty slow when it comes to feed time.

IME, waspfish are solid feeders once weaned. However, in multiple-scorp setups, we do make sure that we target feed each fish to insure that they all get the proper amount of food.

The fish actually do get the hang of it, and altho every so often one specimen may be especially hungry, they generally wait their turn, as they know the food god will indeed smile on them.

Weaning the fish is best done in a QT, however, as there are no distractions for trainer or trainee.

If these were the kind of fish you feed daily, it would be pretty dirty. However, since you'll likely be feeding 3x a week or so, it's not too bad. Once thing is if you feed a lot of oily food to the preds, it CAN accumulate on the water surface like an oil slick, so you'll want good surface agitation.

A good skimmer is your friend.

Another 40Br scorp build!

I would think the cardinals would end up being lunch.
And the leaf fish will be particularly hard to train. Arent they supposed to be really tough to wean onto frozen?

i think the only fish that could eat the cardinals is the lion fish. but it might be hard for them to eat a 3" fish.

Yellowspot Scorp (Sebastapistes cyanostigma)
Cockatoo Waspfish (Ablabys taenianotus)
Pair Red fin Waspfish (Paracentropogon rubripinnis)
Fu Manchu Lionfish (Dendrochirus biocellatus)
Hawaiian Lionfish (Dendrochirus barberi) or Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus)
pair Kaudern's Cardinal (Pterapogon kauderni)

in what order should i buy and add these to the tank? im planning on keeping the in 10 gallon tanks untill i can wean them to frozen foods.
