hey guys, - -- -so, it's been about 5 months now and things are going GREAT.

I was at a popular LFS a few weeks ago and saw a small white starburst polyp colony that i thought looked nice, so i picked it up for $20.

Pretty much right away i noticed small green "hairs" on it but did not think much of it.

well, I went on vacation, had a friend look after tank and then had two killer weeks at work.

i noticed tonight that the entire frag had pretty much been taken over by this green stuff and it now looks like a bush (and one or two green bubble algae bubbles)

please note that there is NO VISIBLE algae anywhere in my tank!

so i filled a half gallon jug with tank water and pulled the frag out. i checked live aquaria and it says that it lives in 72-78 degrees so i put it on top of my cable box (sorry cablevision)

not totally sure what to do with this small frag.

tried to take a pic but i think my mem card is corrupt - - trying to restore it now!

thanks as always!

The frag will not live long without the proper circulation of the water. Saltwater can stagnate very quickly without flow.

It sounds like bryopsis or hair algae.
How big is your tank---one fix for bryopsis is to crank up the magnesium to 1600 ppm and keep it there until the hair algae dies off.

capn - - - the tank is a 28 gallon nano - -- i will put it into a bigger container with a powerhead later.

dave, no i have not tried pulling it off by hand - -

ill check my manesium levels when i get home - - - - how do you raise them?

i did have a little bit of algea on a rock that was touching the frag so i pulled it out and brushed it off with a toothbrush

You can raise it with Kent Marine Tech M. If there was algae on the frag when you bought it, it is probroble being feed by phosphate in your tank. I would try to pull it off and scub the rock with a toothbrush and put it back in the tank. Keep it away from other rocks for a little while, so if it comes back, it doesen't spreed.
