Another Custom Stand Construction Thread- 120 Gal.

Slamming!!! Awesome stand!! I just had one built for myself, could have done it myself but... it's winter in New York and I don't have a Heated Garage, and the price was too good to pass up. I also had it stained in cherry. I REALLY LIKE YOUR DESIGN!!

Canopy Construction Started

Canopy Construction Started

I began building the canopy for the tank tonight. I did not get very far. Just the front face frame and the column face frames tonight. All made from solid maple using pocket screws.

I just started using pocket holes and they are awesome!!!

Highly recommended to anyone building a stand or canopy!

Kregtool. com manufacuters some great kits. now I only wish I bought the higher end kit. I purchased the Kreg Pocket Rig Kit. it works great but if I had to do it again I'd purchase at least the Kreg Jig k3 Standard pack that way I could always upgrade the kit to the Master kit if I wanted.

Pocket holes make it a very clean install and they make it easy to do it.

wow I just reread my post and it looks like a sales pitch. I don't work for kreg or have any affiliations with them other than owning the kit.

There is a supply shop that sells to all of the local cabinet shops nearby. You might call a local cabinet maker and ask where they buy their materials. FYI- this is much cheaper than buying from Lowes and they have more than just pine, oak and birch.

Nice job Marino. Looks great. One suggestion. You will want to apply your finish to both sides of those doors. If you only seal one side and allow the moist air to enter the other at an unequal rate, your doors will warp and not fit correctly. Or, even worse, crack. Otherwise I love what you have done. Nice use of pocket screwing.

Peace,

Beautiful work! I have been planning on using sonofgaladriel's stand design as well. Nice to see a different take on it. The one thing that I can't decide on is the column width and and depth, what are the actual sizes of yours? I will be waiting anxiously for your canopy design so please keep taking lots of pictures for us that need lots of directions :)

love the stand, i'm in the process of building the same exact stand now and for a 120 with corner overflow!!! i have the 2x4 framing done, now to choose what type of finishing wood :)

Bigjdc- I think he knows :)
