looks amazing.. how come the canopy pillers are a little smaller than the stand?

I was trying to keep the weight down. This thing is really heavy.

true.. i wanna make one to be raised by pully systems.. but i think it might be too heavy might have to make the top and front removeable or flip up or something...

Finished Stand sitting in place

Finished Stand sitting in place

I finally moved this beast into its final resting place. This will sit in a family room I recently finished in my basement. I plan on having the sump, skimmers and other equipment in an unfinished storage room on the other side of the wall (still looking for suggestions on how to neatly place the plumbing through the wall without it looking like I just cut a hole). I think the stain color matches the room well.

I also ran across these tension gas springs in another thread:

http://www.ameritoolmfg.com/tensiongassprings.asp

I was thinking these might be what I need to assist in lifting the flip top front, since it is so heavy. Let me know if you have any experience with these or know of anywhere else to get them.

I hope everyone likes it as much as I do. I'm getting closer to getting water in this thing and I can't wait!

I think those springs is a good idea. I have never used them but the idea behind it sounds good. I wonder about any kind of water dmg to them though...

I can't wait to see water in this also !

Absolutely beautiful! You should be proud, you did a great job. I think it really matches your paint. And I agree you should keep the thread going with the rest of your tank setup. Good Luck.

Awesome stand did you ever come up with the weight of the hood? I have a similar hood doors on the front flip up face 3 pfo minis 250 hqi, 4 t-5's closed top and 4 4" fans 2 on each end. Some times I worry a bit about the weight on the tank it has been this way since 10-05 so so far so good. Again awesome stand and skills on your part I had a friend do mine for me no wood working skill on my part.

Brewen, I would guess that the total weight of the hood is approximately 40 lbs. This is with no lighting installed. What type of hardware did you use for your flip front?

A basic piano hinge not stainless steel nor is the hard wear which in time I can see myself changing out moisture builds up in the hood after lights out so the fans are on a timer they kick on several times during the non light time to stop the moisture build up in the hood

The tank sits on a metal stand with a false wood shroud that is easily pulled away for easy access under the tank. I based my tank hood and stand after this TOTM http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-11/totm/index.php I do not have the cabinet next to it like Jamie Cross does no room in the home my base is 30" deep on a 24" tank the last 6" of the shroud that is against the wall is where all the chords and ballasts are hidden the tank and stand sits 6" off the wall. There is also a wood top to cover that space so you cannot look down into the cord jungle.

marino420td, very nice! What type of lighting are you going to have and how do you plan on mounting it inside your canopy?

The canopy is 16" high. I plan in have 2- 250 watt MH and I think I'm going to buy Lumenarc Mini reflectors. I'll simply hang them from the top of the canopy. I may have to install another piece of wood to attach these to.

I'm having Terry Halloway build me an 18" canopy for my 120 (tho I like yours it will be 16" above the tank). I have two 250 watt MH PFO pendants I plan to hang too! I also bought two 54 watt T5 retrofit for actinics and plan on buying the 2 light lunar tracker. Are you going with actinics and moon lights also? Like to hear your set up plans....

londonloco, I will definitely have moonlights. Probably diy's like on my current setup. I haven't decided on actinics yet. I may install one or two actinic bulbs just for the flourescence because I like the way it looks. Maybe run them for an hour or so after the MH's go out. But my plan is to light the tank primarily with just 2- 250 watt MH.
