Another deep blue overflow removal question

Hello everyone,

I have a deep blue rimless 57gallon tank and as most of you know the overflow is too big. I have read that a few people have taken it of and cut it to a smaller size and i want to this as well. The one thing i couldnt dind in these threads and what im concerned about is... will doing this damage the bottom back sillicone seam where the bottom of the overflow meet?

I know a few people have done this removal but im not sure if they had to re-silicone that entire bottomback seam. Theres also the thing that new silicone doesnt adhere well to old silicone so im worried about leaking. Please post if you have any ideas, or suggestions. Thanks.

Almost by half... because what bothers me is thefront to back space it takes up and even how flow restricing it can be.

well i install a overflow on 90g 24''tall i didnt touch the back bottom seal its been bout 6mths no leaks for now lol

Haha yeah itd be horrible if it leaked. On this one im trying to remove the overflow it came with thats why im not sure if it will affect the seam when i remove.

I'd try to avoid cutting the silicone at the back bottom edge, but those over flows are designed where they use 2 pieces of glass on the sides and then the front is just curved plastic. Looking at the plumbing on mine best you would be able to gain is 2" more because of where the bulkheads are drilled. To do that you could cut out the front and use a flat piece instead of the curved piece. I have a 75 gallon DB Edge. I don't really see that 2" being worth the bother personally.

Yeahh you are right i think Cutting that bow on the overflow might be the safest way to go. I wonder why any of the threads i read did not do it this way tho. I think those 2" might make a big difference. Any suggestion on where to get the replacement front side?

Any ideas on where to get a pice of plastic/acrylic/material that would work well for substituting the bowfront part of the overflow?

I'd consider trimming the front plastic and flattening it out. Might be a headache though but you could get some 1/4" glass cut and put acrylic over. Or maybe just the acrylic.
