I realize how rare this is  , but I now have another optical water level sensor that has failed. I realize that the sensors have been changed, but WT....! Just how I wanted to spend my time after spending a lot of $ on a controller thats primarily use is top off. I have already have gone through two optical and one mechanical. What is the solution to such a simple task as top off? Guess...Just order the new version?

If the sensor is less than a year old (need receipt) the item is covered under warranty

As mentioned many times on this forum there was a batch of optical sensors that had issues, GHL let everyone know this and withdrew the product until they could assure that the product met their 100% reliability factor. The manufacturer failed them again even before re release.

For an FYI, these sensors were not made by GHL and are the same ones fitted to plane's toilets as over flow sensors!! May explain a few smelly loo's :frog:

So GHL completely took the optical off the market, until now where they have invested heavily in manufacturing their own, the only way to assure 100% quality, and these are coming back into stock this week.

So as said before on here if you have a dodgy airline toilet over flow sensor and it is less than one year old, please email us at sales@aqua-digital.com and we will arrange a replacment for you.:

AQD_ottawa,

Thanks for the response. This optical sensor is a replacement from Cherry Corals. While I know it is less than a year old, I understand GHL's policy with the receipt. I'm not sure I was every mailed the receipt, but the package was received 12/24/2008 from Todd(still have the FedEx tracking information).

I also have a dead mechanical float switch that I had tried to repair. The wiring inside the jacket was corroded several feet up from the sensor(copper turned black) head up towards the connector.

In todays manufacturing world, most companies do not make all of the products themselves. They do however have them made to the specifications in which they requested. I respect GHL's decision to change/stop selling the sensors, but I don't believe the rarity of the situation.

Michael, you are very dedicated to this product, and it shows. This truly is the one area I have had difficulty with the Profilux controller since I have purchased it.

I am sorry i am not sure how I can help you in regards to your beliefs, :( I only can say that over 2,500 were sold globally and out of that in North America I sold in excess of 500 through the dealer network and including yours this will make a total of 7 failures about 1.5%. If it was more than that this uneditable forum would be flooded with similar threads as the optical level sensor was by far the most popular.

I do hope that reasures. But what is far more important is how GHL dealt reacted 6 months ago now with the few that did show to be an issue.

To continue your support warranty case please email me at sales@aqua-digital.com where I can assist you further.

Thanks :)
Michael

Hi Michael,

I would like to know if it's the optical float sensor that is going to be stock or the non-contact one ??

Thank you

Hiya

There are three sensor types to choose from

Here is the full GHL line up

PL-Floater (PL0077) - Float sensor
PL-OptoLevel (PL0082) - Optical sensor
Contactless-Level-Sensor (PL0627) - Non contact level sensor

PL0077 and PL0082 require
PLM-Base fixing bracket which can hold two sensors.

You also require for
PL0077 - PL-LF-S8 sensor holder
PL0082 - PL-LF-S12 sensor holder

PL0627 requires no further fixing assembly added

Furthermore if you purchase the PLM-ADIN (analogue/digital interface card) you can use your own float sensors or any switchable sensor for that matter meaning you can have multiple level sensor inputs

There are none at all reported to fix.

If you personally have an issue with a float sensor, then please contact us, we are unable resolve warranty cases on this forum.

thanks :)

I am contemplating to get a level senor and plug my return pump into so that if the water level is too high in the tank then the pump stops, after the water level goes down, the pump would automatically turn back on without any intervention.

What is the most reliable type of level sensor that does this?

Floats are great for sumps where there is no fish or snail intervention.

Opticals are great in display tanks for the above reasons ;)

How about the non contact level sensor? Does it perform as well as the optical? It looks like it will be the least clutter in the tank if the non contact is used.
