Another good use for knee highs!

Good luck!

My friend had a pair that laid on the glass. He hung a tile with fishing line over the spot, and they laid on it the next time. Might be worth a try for the next nest.

Good luck with the snagger.

Yesterday, no headbands, but a lot of the larvae lost their dark pigment and turned orange.

Today, I see a few headbands. I hope to see more this evening.

Cheers,
Kathy

Kathy,

I tried your larval snagger (apropos name with stockings as the key material) design this week. I have to say - just to gross out the majority gender here, that it was a great use for maternity stockings I no longer need! :p

The only problem I had was the stupid little 'gutter' they put on the bottom of the plastic storage container. I understand it's purpose for other uses, but for some reason most of the larvae stayed in the gutter and I couldn't coax them out. I just poured and hoped I didn't injure any, but the container I used had a little 'dam' in the gutter at all the corners, so I was quite concerned about losing a few crashing into that or getting stuck/left behind. Who's to say, but I found very few losses this morning, so that's a good sign.

If anyone finds plastic containers without a gutter on the bottom - or any other bright ideas - let me know!

Thanks again for the photos, Kathy.

Lots of headbands. All larvae are orange now. Very different.

Meanwhile I used the knee high snagger again this evening. Fabulous! Got gobs of larvae. I could actually watch them go into the box and tell when they were done hatching when the glowing dots stopped coming. I will try to get a video next time. I was too fascinated this time.

Happy Easter,
K

Kathy very cool, I am going to try one of your inventions I should have a batch hatching tomorrow night. How old are the young when you sell them mine were born on the first of February and the biggest ones are about 3/4" long now. I know they should be about an inch and a half long when they are able to leave home just kinda wondering if I am on track or not.

About 4 months, but more important is how big they are. They should be 1 and a quarter inch long. Some will be ready before others are. I have a batch that are ready. They were hatched on Jan 9. Give yours another month, and measure again.

Not my invention. I just put together parts of other people's ideas, and took pictures.
