Another Hypo question.

I have my fish in a 75gal quarantine and am at 1.015 and dropping. My question is could I aclimate another fish into this tank as well or would the salinity change be to much for the fish. I was thinking of getting a fish from the LFS because I was told that now was the time.
Thanks

Are you performing hypo due to an ich outbreak. If you are I wouldnt think this is the best time to add a new fish. If you are quarantining all these fish at once that also isnt good. Adding too many fish at once can mess up your bioload in the main display causing an ammonia spike

To answer your question, the fish should be fine if done very slowly. I would stop dropping the salinity now if you are going to add the fish then continue. Wait for someone else to chime in, but I would recommend maybe a 6 hour acclimation, though I could be wrong.

Edit: I dont think youd have to do it for 6 hrs. I checked my logs and when I did my hypo treatment my first water change brought the salinity from 1.025 to apporx. 1.019. According to Liveaquaria.com they suggest you acclimate new tankamtes for about an hour. Id go just a bit longer to give time to adjust to the salinity also

I would take a step back and consider what you're doing.

You are performing a hyposalinity treatment I assume because you think your fish need treatment. Since hyposalinity is really only effective against one condition (an infestation of Marine Ich - Cryptocaryon irritans) then is that the problem?

If you now introduce new fishes to this treatment process, you are potentially bringing in new fish with other diseases. Do you really want to have to treat your fish at this stage for multiple diseases and problems?

I don't disagree with these kinds of short cuts, but I think the qualifications of the aquarist need to be on the 'advanced' and 'expert' levels.

Consider slowing down.

Your LFS wants to sell, sell, sell.

i agree w/LEE, if you're treating for a parasite problem..my best advice is wait until it's fully eradicated prior to adding additional livestock.

also,,why would now 'be the time'? b/c you're treating the fish for a possible parasite infestation? or b/c you have qt setup and running?
just wondering what the rationale was behind the recommendation?

Thanks for the info. I was told that now was the time to introduce new fish because everytime you introduce a new fish in the QT you have to wait another4-8 weeks. The person that told me this must have been wrong. I will be waiting for the fish to get healthy before adding anything new.
