I used the Bayer Advanced Complete Insect Killer on two frags that I got from a buddy of mine. He knew he had them and gave me the frags cause he did not want to deal with them. I used .5ml of Bayer Advanced Complete Insect Killer for every 2 cups of tank water.

So I was cleaning my tank today and in the process the following washed up on to the glass, I'm hopeful it's cyclps-Eeze, what do you guys think?

While probably not Cyclopeeze, I don't believe they are red bugs either. Probably some type of copepod.

Those are cyclop-eeze. Red bugs are way smaller, very hard to get clear pictures even with macro lenses. Ricwilli, nice video. Make sure you check for the eggs before adding those frags to yor tank. I don't think AEFW eggs will get killed by the dip.

That was taken with a Canon 180mm lens with two extension tubes attached, it took me forever to get the thing in focus. Great to hear, of course if red bugs are smaller than that I'm not sure I could see them.....

I guess you are probably going to just have to do some experimenting like Whisperer did. As I understand it, Imidacloprid (the active ingredient in this treatment) is banned in Canada (and France too), mostly due to its suspected link with colony collapse disorder in honey bees.

Ive just tried my first dip with this solution. I used the recommended 0.5ml/2cups ratio. I dipped for 8 min. I did have another cup with just tank water to rinse after the dip. Its been about 4 hours and I do see the polyps peeking again. However I think I shook the coral to hard and bruised the tips. They look somewhat pale. From what I read that should be temporary. Otherwise It did kill the red bugs!!!

Nice to hear success. It is also very effective against AEFW. I dipped 2 corals that had hints of AEFW infestation (pale areas, bite marks) last night and removed several flatworms.

Wow Whisperer! I've been getting my QT up and running for a bit now, and am glad I was directed to this.

I had planned on dipping (for AEFW) with Revive, and have actually already bought five bottles of it (for $70). Kind of stinks!

Anyways, you still seeing odd growth? That is the only concern I have at this point. I don't want to stunt the growth. Could you break the tips to see if you can "encourage" growth again?

Any new pics? I love a happy ending!!!!

I do not recall any mention of growth stunting nor odd growth after dipping. Fact is, there is really no adverse effect on the corals at all. I will not claim that growth is faster after dipping. Rather, the corals resumed normal growth after removal of the pests. New pics of the corals in a few weeks for you to see how the corals are growing. In the meantime, you guys have fun killing both the RB and AEFW using just one solution that is both cheap and safe.

Found the part I misread Whisperer. I thought you meant the dip slowed growth, when in reality you meant RB stunt growth. That I completely agree with!

This dose seems high to me. Recommended dose was .5ml per 2 cup of tank water. 2 gallons of tank water, the dose should have only been 16ml of Bayer Advanced. I'm I not doing the math right ? How are you corals doing today ?

oops - I will have to redo the math. Sounds like I screwed up. I keep a spreadsheet that I use to determine how much of different types of medications/etc I need to add per qt, 1/2 gal, gal, etc. I must have miscalc'd something when I entered this bayer product to my spreadsheet. Either way, all the corals made it fine, they all look good and are open and colorful. I dipped them for 10 - 12 minutes. I guess I dodged a bullet on that one. After all I have been through this winter if I had killed these I would probably just have thrown in the towell (not).

Anyway, I will recalc the dosage so that my spreadsheet has the correct concentration. - thanks

Does anyone (or can anyone provide) the % active ingredient for this product? I have access, in the landscape market, generic Imidacloprid and would like to convert the rate(s) if applicable? Maybe the % ai is the same and I am good to go?
