Another RODI question

I got my auto shut off float valve thing today and installed in on my Brute trash can. While testing it to make sure it will work, I noticed that even though the good water is stopped from going into the storage container, there is still water coming out of the waste line.

Will the fact that the float valve shut off the good water line eventually mean that water pressure builds up in the filter cannisters and therefore shuts off the water from even flowing through the system?

It seems to me that if I were to leave it as is, all of the water would end up going down the drain as the waste line is the only one open.

What am I missing?

So there is an auto shutoff that you can buy that does what you want. Currently if you block the flow of the good water for example with a float valve in your brute then the waste water will continue to flow. If you want your waste water to shut off when your float valve closes you need something like this.

When pressure builds in your RO/DI water supply line from the float valve closing it uses that pressure to close a valve on your waste water line.

There are other choices that get into more control with electronic valves but the one I put a link to is the simplest and most cost effective.

I'm pretty sure that's the one I have.

What kind of RO system do you have? Check behind the filters and see if the one shown isn't already on there. The waste doesn't shut off right away - it runs for another 20 or 30 seconds and then shuts off.
