another set up question

I would like to know what is recommended for flow in my new 90gal tank. I would like to keep soft corals, mushrooms and zoos and possibly later down the road have the option to do more. My lfs said to get a koralis 3 and 4 or even 2 #4s. This seems like a lot to me. He said "you can never have too much flow". I just want happy fish and corals. Please advise. Thanks.

More flow is better. If your blowing the corals over & kicking up a sand storm then YA....back it down a bit.

Oh Ya.......make sure that the fish are not pinned up against the glass....LOL

I have 3 #3 powerheads in a 90

the preferred range of flow for your tank is between
1800 and 3600 gph

3 k3's will give you 2400 gph as will 2 k4's

I would go with the 3 k3's because with the lps corals you want they do not like alot of flow directed right at them. Three power heads makes it a little more convenient to play with the directions of the flow.

You can never really have too much flow. 20 x turnover is recommended for an sps tank and 10 x turnover for others. That includes your return pump and head height if you have a sump/fuge or trickle filter of some sort. In my opinion, koralia 1 and 2 aren't worth the money. I would put two powerheads, the bigger the better on either end of the tank and direct them towards each other to create some turbulence in the tank. You can even put one on a timer to give it a little alternation of flow if you like. I like to see the sand just moving a little bit so that I know detritus will not collect on the bottom of the tank. I even have powerheads behind rocks to keep detritus down to a minimum. The idea is to keep everything up in the water column.

I'd use 3 K4's. I have a K4, K3, and K1 in a 54gal corner mixed reef and it's still not enough. I'm going to be modding all powerheads and hope to get around 4500-5000gph. 100x turnover will be good for me
