Another t-5 discussion

I love my T5's. I've had this set for 18months. And I just ordered my replacement bulbs. I sorta miss the look of the MH's.
The WAF(Wife Approval factor) is higher with the low profile canopy.

I hope I can speak openly here on our local forum without offending anyone - and I will definitely admit this is a highly personal choice, but I really strongly dislike T5. IMHO they offer several of the disadvantages of VHO (chiefly a lack of contrast as Flanders noted) with worse coloration. I'm with Gary - among "conventional" reef lighting choices, I really like warmer MH with VHO supplementation.

Openly discussed is best IMO, Personaly theres nothing anyone here could say that is going to offend me when discussing reef related subjects.Right or wrong.

I agree with Flanders, yourself and others, halides with supplement flourescents give the best asthetic appeal,IMO. The shimmer and contrast is awesome.
But I cant justify 500-600 watts supplemented halides over 216 watts of t-5. Halides are more or less designed to lightup a 2x2 area per bulb.Anything under 18" wide, 24"height ,IMO, kinda wasteful.T-5 give a pretty good color ,enough for me.I haven't got as far as LED supplement but from searches in the general forum ,it seems the shimmer effect can be acheived.
