I've never really had any luck with these, (blue, red, purple) but my LFS just got a nice frag so I traded some other stuff for it. Will see how it goes.
The purple have been easy for me. I went from 8 polyps in March to over 100 by December. I am on my second try with the reds, but in the 3 months I've had them they have not put out a single new polyp. Good Luck to both of us
What temps do you keep your tank? I have seen them close and then melt at much over 78 degrees. I might suggest that you shoot for 77 with a high of 78 and see if this helps at all. If so, I would like a report back.

The temperature usually varies between 76-84 throughout the year. The highs & lows of this variation rarely happen though, so on average it probably fluctuates between 78-82 on a daily basis. That MH bulb I have does generate a lot of heat, but I'll try adjusting the cooling fan from low to medium and see if that helps. Thanks.
I have the same problem with the Rastas too btw. (not sure if this matters or not) They grow slow, if at all & and they just never look nice and full. (very tiny polyps) I keep thinking that there just going to shrink up and disappear but they continue to hold on.
I find that most of the ones that people call "deepwaters" don't do well with temps over 78. ...you know, the ones that are circular in nature such as hornets, rastas, fruit loops, LA lakers, etc.
