Another wavebox ?

If I don't like the wave box (don't have one yet) can I pull out the 6200 and use it as a plain old stream.

Not without a bit of extra expense. The pump is a 6200 with a 6100 transformer and it was never intended for anything but off and on use. You would have to either A: spend over $120 for a 6200 transformer and get a 6200 Stream or B: spend $36 for a 6100 prop and basically end up with a 6100 Stream with a wider flow because it has the 6200 housing.
