Yup That Stuff
hey guys just heard on the new...havnt had time to look on the web for any info but here is what i know....A chunk of western antarctica, the size of 3-4 manhattan islands, broke off and is sinking. they are deticating satillites and aircraft for fotage of this rare event...they said that now a larger portion of the western antarctica, the size of Connecticut, is only being held on by a small thin piece of ice now....aparently global warming isnt a joke...

I was going to say the same thing Frank but desided not to open a can of worms. I also feel that this stuff has happened in the past will happen in the future and there is little we can do about it. We are on the warming side of the last ice age. Nothing more.
Doesnt meen we shouldnt clean up our act but I for one dont believe all the hipe. The earth is a volitile place and we just happen to live here now. The next Ice age to come may or may not be the end of us but it will come. Has many times in the past and will comtinue. Its cyclical.

oh i know it is a cycle and it has ben happing for billions of years but it seems to be happening a little faster than all of the other had progressed. but Jerry will kick in with his overwhellming knowlege on the subject...lol...

LOL...OOPS...hope I didn't open a can of worms :)

I am not sure it is happening faster than it has in the past or not. I actually heard the so called global temp went down last year, so....

Anyway...just remember that one good volcano errupting releases more CO2 into the atmosphere than we could ever release in 100 years.

Oh yea you did Frank!! Well really no, It was Vince who opened it. You just dumped them out. Now they are crawling all over the place and someone has to pick them all up :)

If you ask me I think its arrogant for us to believe we are capable of changing the earths weather or effecting it to any degree as to cause a catastrphy. We are small on this planet. When the planet is ready it will shake us off like a dog with fleas.

This global warming is just the newest form of scare tactic. Remember when it was paper bags? We are killing trees for the bags we use in the store. So we all went to plastic. Then its the plastic is contaminating the earth. Give me a break.

yes this was said, i havent found an acutal research paper on it, but if you were to acctually take the temp, was it the outside temp, the atmospheric temp, the core temp, how many times was the temp taken how many millions of points was the temp taken from. just some sceptisizum on that statment. im not saying that to offend you but i have seen the statment with no fact behind it before.

but any who i am sorry for the worms, i just thought it was interesting that a part of anarctica is desintigrating, and they are catching it on film which is pretty sweet.

Not offending me :)

I haven't realely seen anything on it either...I am sure there will be something eventually. There are actually more claims that the global temp is not a real measurement anyway, no way to really do it accurately and how do you measure it againt history if they didn't do it the same way 100 years ago...

Too much speculation for me :)

Like Ryan said...this is not to say we don't need to do things better...we can always make things better.

And the article was cool...thanks for the info :)

Its all about money. Who has it, who wants it and how best to get it. Invest in ethenol and scream to high heaven that oil is killing the planet. Soon as we go that way and the ethenol craze is over it will be something else. Its a shame that the people with the power of voice loud enough to be heard have to resort to fear tactics to make their money. Keep the public affraid and they will follow blindly. Buying anything they are told. I say shame shame.

If the planet was the real issue then solar power would be more popular. Why isnt it? Because its not a resource that can be bought or sold. No money in it.

I do believe that is part of it but it is also not econimical in some instances. also the initial cost is way over everyone's price range. And there is the fact that people dont like change. Since things are stable people wont change. once things become unstable, when power is interupted because we dont have fuel to keep power plants going then, people will look to change to a more stable way of getting electricity, but until that time you wont see it happen and you wont see the price go down on solar panels to make them affordable to the general consumers.

The only reason solar is expensive now is because nobody is buying them. The more people buy them the more factories that will start making them.the more companies to research it. Suply and demand. As long as the suply can be handled by 1 or 2 factories the price is going to remain high and the technology will suffer. If instead of this ethenol crap, if the powers that be would push solar power, more would buy, more plant would be opened and the price would go down. More jobs would be created and the planet as a whole would be cleaner and more efficient. Like I said, No money in it. As far as it not being cost effective, its only not cost effective because of the above reasons its so expensive.

Anyone notice how expensive anything corn related has gotten? Also milk, eggs, wheat, etc...ethenol is not the answer...it was a stop gap. Now we are using corn for fuel (or trying to) and it is causing our necessities to get more expensive. Anything that relies on corn is expensive, right down to Tequilia!!! It has almost doubled in cost!!

I may not have all the facts but I believe I am smart enough to see what side my bread is buttered on. And even that costs more because cows eat corn to give milk for butter. My mother did not raise a fool. Just a man who never became tall enough to be heard. A fact Im sure Mr Al Gore would be very happy about.

To top all of this off...I saw a news article in NJ a few months ago on a guy that made a flame out of water. Actually he was using it as a torch to cut steel. He did something to the chemistry of the water to change it from H2O to HHO I think?!? Not sure...but he was also running his car on it...

Anyway...never heard anything else from this poor guy. My guess is one of two things happened...either Exxon/Mobil bought the rights to this technology and stores it on a shelf somewhere (and made him a rich man) or...he is on the bottom of the Hudson river somewhere with concrete shoes.

Yea I saw that and to be honest I cant believe we didnt think of it sooner. He used sound waves to free the hydrogen from water and hydrogen burns. Very cool stuff. To bad for that guy tho. Unless I miss my guess he is buried along side of Hoffa or soon will be. No money in that either. Sound and water dont cost much.

he was putting salt in water and then using sound wave to excite the salt molecules and that inturn would break the H and O bond releaseing the gases. it took more energy to do that then it produced so it wasnt economical.

But even with this move to ethinal, these high voices are pushing there arnt really that many people changing over and the fact that it is still more expensive than gas. asong as Gas is still here in abundance people wont change. it is part of the human psycy, people would rather feel comfort and stable than help the environment as well as pay more and change.

no he isnt in the ground. they are trying to develope a way to generate sound waves that will use less energy. So they will make more energy than they use to break the H and O bond. Plus if you forced this onto the economy esp now it would crumble.

We can't produce enough of what it takes to make Ethenol (corn or sugar cane). If we exclusively grew it for fule we would not have anything to feel the cows, the chickens, etc, etc...
