Are there any anthias suitable for a 40 breeder?
Also how do they react to Ich?

The only type I would even consider would be the sunburst because they are not as active swimmers as the others. However, apparently they can get up to 5" which would not be appropriate. I've always seen them in the 1-2" range though.

+1 Some hardier anthis may LIVE in a small tank; but never thrive. They really need the swimming space.
On the ich question: Like all fish, if they are exposed to ich, they will probably get it. If they aren't, they can't. Some fish may take longer to catch ich; but no fish has permanent immunity. I've seen and cured lots of anthias with it. BTW, ich is just one of many reasons to always use a QT. Ich is usually quite easy to cure there.

I lost several anthias when I hypo'd them treating a tank with ich (out of ~20 fish the only other fish I lost was a hogfish). I dont know if it was the salinity itself, the drop in pH, or if a little ammonia popped up that they were more sensitive to, but I won't be hypoing anthias again. I've treated them with copper just fine before.

I have a Resplendent Anthias in my 40breeder hes the perfect size, he hangs out with my Blenny. I agree most other Anthias just wont work in a smaller tank, the Resplendent Anthias is smaller and seems to be a perfect fit.
I checked with Snorvich before I bought him, I didnt want to put a fish in the tank that was gonna be stressed or unhappy.

LOL! I didnt mean to say Ich. I meant to say Copper. I dont like doing hypo... I find it annoying... How do they react to copper?

i did it, had 3 lyretail in a 50g tank. they have somekind of hacking order within their species, the largest hits on all smaller ones, the second largest on all smaller ones, etc. so the smallest always gets it all. first one to die. the others were hard to keep up because they need food 5 times a day, hard to do in a tank this small (filtration).

IME&IMO, they are fine with copper. I always use cupramine, raise level slowly, keep at .35-.40ppm, and get them feeding before treating. This level and time-frame are a bit different than the bottle instructions; but SeaChem (maker of Cupramine) tech support seems to approve

right on I use cupermine too... First time I used it I went from .0 to .5 in the first day like the bottle instructs... Killed my wrasse, and my Neon Goby... Kinda sucked, but live and learn I guess.

A dwarf angel or a small(er) wrasse such as a carpenter's flasher seem to be good for a 40b.
Like others say, Anthias need some room, but I'd think you'd be fine with a single or a pair in a 40b. Especially if you have a bunch of swimming room and aren't too stocked. I'd choose a smaller and hardier species.
As mentioned by Burnah, some species are planktonic feeders, and some suggest feeding numerous times a day. There are other 'hardier' species that are fine feeding twice per day and will more readily take foods such as mysis or small pellets.
I will be putting a male and 3 female Bartlett Anthias into my 125 long tank soon. Most likely my next addition. I am on the lookout for them at my LFS.
