Anthia Stock Question

What do you think about mixing 3 dispar with 3 resplidant. My tank is a 90 gallon 23 inches wide by 4ft. My plan would be 1 male of each and 2 females per species. No other fish are in the tank. Are these to close to closeto the same color? Also hope to have a pair of firefish.

I have resplendent right now with sunset and carberryi, no issues at all

I'm not overly familiar with either of those sp. or able to lend sound advice on compatibility..
I will offer this though: When keeping multiple sp. of anthias, I think that setting up an autofeeder will be very worthwhile. Feeding manually can get tiresome and as a result, feedings get inconsistent and animals suffer. I would run Spectrum pellet (probably numerous sizes) and freeze dried Cyclopeeze in the autofeeder.

Keeping flow high will suit the anthias and help with aggression.

What does your scape look like? Do you have lots of open space?
Are you going to be quarantining your fishes?

Thanks for the responses. I have read they require frequent feeding and an automatic feeder is desired. I have no issue getting one. I will have high flow two mp40's with mostly SPS. Here is a pic of my scape.

Tank is still not ready I want to make sure all my params are completly solid. I would love to quarantine but will not commit to this yet. Not saying I wont but curretnly do not have one setup. I do realize the risk of not quaranting.

From my past experience I think you will be fine. They might check each other out for a few days, figure out where everyone ranks then go on their way.

Yes the tank is beautiful. You may have a problem with the Despar as they do not acclimate well. You really should have a larger tank-length wise for the anthias as I'm sure you know these are open water fish and need room to swim. There are always exceptions and would say to give it a try but realize it may not work. Pushing the boundaries or established rules is why we are able to maintain so many animals that just 20 years ago was thought not possible. For better luck you might want to consider the Bartletts instead as they generally do well in a closed system.

Thanks for the comments on my tank. So far I am pleased with the setup. The tank is an elos 120. I really wanted a balance betewen function and astetics. I am trying to go minamilistic with the aquascape to allow me to have high socking options. jonbry123 thanks for the heads up on the despar. I think I am going to give them a try. I think its best in these situations if your not blatenly endangering the livestock or making proven choices that result in failure to simply give it a try.

My dispars have been very passive fish so far, I doubt they'd ever try to mess with other fish. I have no experience with resplendents, so I can't speak there.

I do know, you won't have any anthias for very long without a tight fitting lid on your tank.

Thanks for the heads up mccool on the lid. I plan on adding a wrasse or two so a lid is a must. I will probally keep the lid on and remove when showcasing the tank.
