Anthias ID?

These are amazing fish and I want a few of them! Any Ideas on what they are?

The top one (male?) is 1.6"

they look like ventralis anthias to me. There have been a few threads about them so do a seach and you should find some info! If you find a good source please let me know!!!

Ventralis regional variant? Is that tail and body color enough to make it a different species?

I agree that the bottom looks to be a ventralis, but the top fish does not.
In the following photos you can see what the male ventralis looks like. They get that mottling around the head consisting of purple and yellow, the fish in question does not have this.

This fish in the first photo was originally priced at 88,000 while ventralis from the same source are priced from 9,800 to 26,820 depending on sex and size.

These fish are located in Japan.

Actually even the ventralis male has a little color on the tail that I never really noticed before.

I was thinking the same thing with the male Michael. I still think it is a ventralis however, just a slightly different colored one...

If you look at the eye, the head structure, the fin shape, it sure looks like it to me. Ventralis all the way.
