Anthias vs. Wrasses

Hi Ellery, I hope all is well with you and your family!

I haven't considdered them; I can't say I'm a big fan of their appearance.

Happy New Year Mike!

Thanks - Alyssa is now 20 months old and appreciating all the fishies:fish2: and I am just relaxing and doing some end of year maintenance in my fish room.

I too had been looking for some nice schooling fish and have gone through the same dilemmas as you. Engineer gobies tend to school/shoal somewhat but as you say not the most colorful either.

Lyretail anthias would be my preference if the prices weren't too high and they seem to be somewhat finicky at first.

Red Spot Cardinalfish

Red Spot Cardinalfish

When I searched for the Red Spot Cardinalfish, I must have looked at the wrong fish. I was looking at the January TOTM and saw that Copps has a school of "red spot cardinalfish" in his "mixed reef tank". They are nothing like I had looked at last time. In fact, they are really cool looking and may considder them. The one thing that bothers me is that they are listed as semi-aggressive. I would hate to lose my flame hawkfish or my three Bar Gobies.

Opinions?

Sorry for intruding - I recently acquired a nice combination of small fish that are all gettting along well. I had Chromis, then added Dispar Anthias, then yellow coris wrasses. Not the sexiest crew - but nice variety of colors and they all hang out and get along together.

I had a trio of blue cardinals(sold under a different name, my mind is blank on it now), they were a cool fish and did school but were pretty reclusive most of the time.
