Anthias???

Hi All,

Looking for some advice, I just started up a 140 cube. Current fish are a female bellus angel, lubbock's wrasse, and two mated false percs. My future stock list is:

- Yellow belly Hippo Tang (3"-4") being added tomorrow
- Male Bellus angel
- Pair of Hawiian Flame Wrasses (may substitute anthias)
- Vanderbilt Chromis (5 of them)
- Possibly a Blue spot jawfish or a Midas Blenny

Would any anthias fit in this group or am I asking for trouble putting them with fairy wrasses & the Bellus angels? Do anthias really need to be fed multiple times a day? Thanks for your responses...

I chose the vanderbilt chromis after reading some articles about different types of chromis. I liked their colors and it's not a fish you see very often in the trade, and I just wanted something less common...

Anthias should be fine in that setup. Just go for the tougher species like P. squamipinnis or P. bartlettorum. Anthias are better off getting fed frequently because they have very small stomachs, but morning and evening works fine for the hardier species IME.

Vanderbilt's are a great little fish. I've got a few self-caught Chromis nigrura which are extremely similar to C. vanderbilti and I greatly prefer them to the more common Chromis species.

Baradhel,

Thanks for the reply, I am a little gun shy about the anthias since I sometimes have to travel for work. So getting my wife to feed my fish more than once a day would be about impossible.

So do you think the vanderbilt chromis would stay to themselves, are they territorial or aggressive at all?

They're much like other Chromis. Not aggressive, but they hold their own. If you're adding a group, then make sure to add them at the same time. If possible try to get them all the same size. Newly introduced specimens of the same species will get harassed by the established ones.
