Any advice on pairing a maroon clownfish

I have a female maroon clown who has been by herself for 3 years. She's around 5 in. long. My first attempt at pairing, I put a small maroon clown into a clear container in the tank and left him there for her to see for a day. She seemed OK, but as soon as I put the small fish into the tank, she went after him.

I now have the little guy back in the clear container. Any suggestion on how I might go about trying to get her to accept him?

Oh sorry I meant put the male in the tank and put the female in the contanier were she can see the male in her territory.Sorry about then wording.

Any updates? Sometimes it can take a few tries when attempting to pair up a male with a female in an established tank. In other words, the males or juvis don't always last. If you haven't already done so, I would take the advice tydtran dished out and put the female in the container and let the male acclimate to the tank so he can establish himself.

Good luck

I have a pair of GSM clowns and what worked for me was putting my much smaller male into a gatorade type clear bottle something with a wide mouth with a bunch of holes poked in it. introduce the male to the tank inside of the container, the opening should be large enough for the male to exit and retreat if needed, but not big enough for the female to get inside. It took my male about an hour to leave the protection of the bottle, but my female was not extremely territorial. I had success with this method and it was my first pairing attempt. good luck.

OK guys here is a tip when pairing maroons!!!

get a bucket fill it with saltwater from the tank then put the female and male togther and if they don't fight in the first 5-10 seconds then you got a pair but make sure the male in a small little guy

I bought a male and female together just a couple of days ago and they get along fine. So I can't say that I know what to do in your situation. I think the female is retarded, thought. All the time, she looks like she's swimming for dear life and is always at a 45 degree angle towards the top of the tank. All I think about is, "just keep swimming, just keep swimming". At first, when they never left the corner, I thought the current was too strong and it was pushing them there. But, they came out of the corner and swim around some. The male just cruises along behind the female.

Is the female just a defective swimmer or has anyone else noticed theirs swimming funny?

I really think that you should start a new thread because you shouldn't hiijack this thread

If you don't want to comment about it then you don't have to. I saw maroon clown fish, I have maroon clown fish, and I thought I would just pop in and ask one simple question. I wasn't looking to "hiijack" this thread. Tydtran can have it.

Roast, mine swam like that when they were stressed out and really were swimming for dear life. Noticed only clowns and not other fish doing that.
Tydtan, did you have any luck with you clowns jet? Or did you ended up bringing it back to the store? Think Roast did it right, thats the key, buying clowns together from the start. Twice I tryed to mix them after and never work out.
