Any Arcohelia Keepers Here?

In an unusual move, for me, I picked up a new coral without doing a large amount of research on its care. In reality, there seems to be very little information on the Arcohelia Rediviva but, prior to purchasing, their overall care seems similar to most other nps. Just wondering if anyone here has kept one and has any tips or info they could share

Thanks!

I remember reading about them in Reef Hobbyist Magazine a while back. All I remember is that they're pretty hard to keep and grow really slowly.

I called Todd at Cherry Corals, given there's a good chance this came from his shipment in '10. He says they're pretty easy. He recommended feeding Cyclopeeze but I've seen some heads swallowing mysid, albeit like spaghetti! I have it in my filter sock this week (great place for new nps: no light, tons of flow and all the food the other corals miss) since I've found that to be one of the best ways to settle nps in. If you ever have one that's doing badly, it's great for them,as well. When I got my new tank, one of my terrazoa colonies was virtually gone. Left it in the sock for 3 months and it came out looking better than it ever had!

Petrophyllia Rediviva?

Petrophyllia Rediviva?

I believe the name is now Petrophyllia Rediviva based upon the guys over at Austin Aqua Farms where I bought my colony. I too had a very difficult time with obtaining information. I have had my colony for about 6 weeks. They are terribly poor shippers. The white 'flesh' of the coral (forget the scientific name) almost always dies off during the shipping process, it also turns purple/red (like a bruise) in areas. Once the 'flesh' has nearly all died off, it will grow back very quickly if fed regularly. I have good polyp extension and nearly all of the flesh has grown back. As far as food...it eats whatever I give it. Mysis, bloodworms, flake...I'm not exaggerating. You don't have to limit it just to cyclopeeze. It is very easy to take care of in my opinion. I've found it best to feed it 1-2 times a day. My colony is not as sensitive to light as I thought it would be considering I have a 12 inch shallow tank under a 400watt metal halide. It is off-center about 18 inches (in the corner) though. Post some pics and I will do the same! Glad I'm not the only one seemingly with this amazing coral!

Funny thing is, it was lumped into Petrophyllia rediviva in 08, before most people even got any

Does anyplace other than aaf have it? I looked but didn't think they looked all that healthy, bane of trying to buy nps online I know.

I passed on these due to the price when they first started coming out but regretting it, haven't really seen it available for awhile. This thread needs some pics...

I just saw the ones on austinaquafarms. The one for $130(?) looks pretty healthy. It's about as healthy as the one I got from them a couple of months ago. It will lose most of its 'flesh' anyways due to shipping but will grow it back rapidly if you feed enough. Agreed about the pics, I will try and get some up.

The pieces AAF has look incredibly tiny (based on eggcrate in background), albeit in decent shape. I would also like to purchase a couple colonies at some point but will wait it out. They'll come back around... someday.

One agitating question: Those who have had one of these; how blue were the polyps?

Mine barely extend and are more gray than blue. I had placed it in my filter sock, directly below a drain dumping close to 2k gph on top of it. I've had incredible success doing this with nps that can thrive on smaller food particles, since every piece that goes down the drains, washes over them down there. When I took it out, after about 4 weeks, still sparse gray polyps and I assumed it was doing poorly...until I noticed it had encrusted a full 2 1/2", 360° around the base, adding almost 20 new polyps. The tank is very blue, running 3 ATI BluePlus and 3 CoralPlus, so it's definitely not a result of insufficient actinic lighting. Perhaps the pics I've seen just look blue, but I'd like to hear others' experience!

I'll attempt to get a good pic tomorrow, the pics my camera phone takes aren't worth posting!
