Any certain way to put on DE bulbs? I might have fried my new bulbs

Hey guys, I ordered some phoenix 14k bulbs from hellolights.

Anyways, instructions say to point the extruded part of the bulb uppermost. I thought it mights up towards the reflector. Did that and turned on the lamp. Bulb comes on and goes bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, then goes off. I hurry up and see if I melted anything, etc. Nothing, so then I think maybe I put it wrong. Took the bulb out and have the extruded part pointing towards me meaning when I put the lamp on the tank, it points downwards at the tank. Well, light comes on.

Anyways, anyone think I might have messed up the bulb or its still good? Does anyone have this kind of problem? Is there a certain way to put the DE bulbs in?

Thanks
Mike

i use phoenix 14ks and i just stick them in. If there is a certain way i am unaware and it has never effected anything

Is it a 150DE or a 250DE?

what kind of lighting set up is it? Homemade or bought, which brand?

The buzzing is the firing circuit trying to start the bulb and get it up to temperature.

Which is a normal sound......

DOTS, I have the sunpod 150 DE. I know the humming sound the fixture makes. Today, when I put the phoenix 14k on, it made a loud BUZZING and the light flicker on and off then went off. I took the bulb out and put it in another way and it fired.

funman, what I mean is, does it matter if the nobby part is pointing towards the reflector or downwards toward the tank? Does it matter or make a difference? I have it downwards pointing towards the tank because the first time it was pointing towards the reflector, it made a bunch of noises and flickered and then went off.

It does not matter which way it's pointing.
The only MH's that matter are the ones that have a bent arc tube inside, other than that they will work either way..

If it made a hissing sound then it just means the bulb was not seated properly and one end or the other was arcing.
