Any Divers?

Wow, did we get another topic to discuss at the next meeting? Anyone remember the Seinfeld where George had the notes written on his hand!! HAHAHA

i am trying to talk the wife into letting me get my certification to dive. there are a few places in the burgh that will do it, but its around $500 bucks

wow that a bit high. Thats what you would pay at a resort.

Check out
Downdive.com they are local here just outside cranberry. Its about 375 including equipment rental for your open water dive.

I am a diver. I went through CCAC to get my certification. They said it would be ~140 per person but all said and done it was 700-800 bucks. And I may be underestimating it.

At a resort you don't get a certification, Naui or Padi. They just certify you to dive that day with them.

That being said, it was worth it. It is a alien world yours to discover down there.

yeah it can add up fast. Ours was about 340 each from downey, which as i said included rental equipment for the open water dives.

The worst thing is there are certain items you dont want to share, i mean who wants a wet suit someone else probably pee'd in?

I`m not a diver but definetly want to become one if that counts haha! I noticed that if you have a certain number of open water dives that you can help out at the PPG Aquarium, sounds like it would be cool even if you are working

Its worth the money and you just buy your stuff along the way. We stil rent Reg's and BCD but have the rest.

For the zoo its an option but from what Rich was saying recently they just changed the rules. So you need 10+ dives yearly plus insurance and a few other requirements just to be considered.

Dont know how much it is now. But I got Basic Diver certification when I was 15 (now 39). We went to Curacao on vacation and they actually had Padi cewrtified instructors there that certified me to OPEN WATER DIVER. You might want to check some of the DIVE RESORTS. They might still do this.

Mainly dive in river so I do not keep logs anymore-guess the zoo is out for me

Yeah you can get fully certified at resorts. Or you can take the skimp course for as mentioned a one day dive which lets you go so many feet with a few other restrictions.
