So i have a 34 gallon DT about 30lbs LR no sump and eshopps 100 HOB skimmer. Tank finished cycling about 1 1/2 months ago. My planned stocking list is as follows:
1- purple firefish (currently in 10gallon QT). 2- blue reef chromis. 3- dwarf angel?????? 4- pair of black snowflake clowns. So the real question is, is there any dwarf that will work with my tank plans? I want a flame angel and have read both good and bad stories of them being kept in a smaller tank like mine. I am planning on adding easy to keep coral in about 2 months so i know that is another factor. Any advise????

A flame angel will be too big for your tank. A flameback or pygmy angel might be okay, but you would probably want to add it last.

I have a flame angel in a 40 gallon tank. The minimum recommendation is 30 gallon although some sites say minimum of 60 gallon. Flame angels really like lots of caves to swim in and out of so that is important as to not stress them out & for them to have their own territory within the tank. That sounds like a lot of fish for that size tank but they are all smaller fish with the flame angel being the largest full grown at about 4 inches. You want to go slow when adding fish like add a fish then wait a month between adding another. This is because you need to make sure the fish waste isn't too much for the live rock & skimmer to process. check water parameters throughout fish additions especially nitrates & do water changes. I would add the clowns at the same time so they pair up properly. If it was me I wouldn't get the chromis leaving more room for the flame angel.

I will be adding one fish at a time with a month and half between additions due to bioload and to keep parameters good. I would rather do just one black snowflake then to not get a chromis but it seems that no one sells them as singles only in pairs

I would avoid the blue chromis. One will kill theother long term. I think the other 4 fish are great for that tank. One flame angel is fine, IMO, but you may want a pair of fireball or flameback or pygmi angels. They are smaller and you can put a pair in there.
Full size chromis is big. To me, they are not that interesting or beautiful. In a small tank like your's, I don't think they worth the Biomass added to the tank.

I've been looking at maybe adding a Cherub angel, but have been concerned about the hit or miss nature of them being reef safe. Sounds like people go years to wake up one morning and their coral has been shredded. Really like those little guys though! Trying to work through what I want to do, and what I think the smart move is.......

I have had Cherub, Flameback and Fireball. All three are perfect angesl for the reef in my tank (I keep pairs of them)

blue reef chromis get pretty big for that size tank imo. whenever we get them in at the store they are usually 3-4 inches already, and they always do terribly. 90% of them never even eat. i have heard similar stories from other people who order them

Pygmy Cherub (Centropyge argi) or Yellowtail (Centropyge flavicauda) would be a good fit for your tank. But I would only add one or the other, not both. I have 4 angels (3 dwarf, 1 juv regular) in a 150 gal and it's a friggin battlefield in there sometimes.

I had my Venustus Angel in a 57 and needless to say he seems to be happier in my 105 gallon. My point is just because a book or website says minimal tank size doesn't mean it will be happy with that tank size.
