My wife and I are taking a trip to Curacao in October. If anyone has any cool must do reef/wreck dives under there belt around the island I would love to hear about it.

I'd also love to hear about any local must do's that don't include diving.

Pics would be amazing if anyone has any pertaining to anythin Curacao!

my wife and i went there last april and the diving is great but the island is so so......housing for the locals is sad but they all seam to be happy so good for them.....all the diving i did was through ocean encounters west....their dive shop was right at my resort......the one thing that i can say about the locals are they are friendly but dont let them convince you to try the iguana stew....it was a whole iguana in some kind of bufallo sauce and it does not taste like chicken....good luck and happy diving

Stayed in Breezes Curacao. Ocean Encounters was also our choice as well, for our time there, the visibilty was unusually bad. We only got to check out one diving point which was a ledge reef close to the resort but it was very nice. Willemstad is a world heritage site and it serves for good photo opportunites. In trinidad we eat iguana so i would say try the stew, doesnt really taste like chicken but some people love it some people hate it...

This is probably late, but my husband and I went for our honeymoon back in August. We went through Ocean Encounters - great shop! Say "hi" to "L" for me if you go through there...he's great! Definitely check out Mushroom Forest - amazing!! The shore diving is nice too...also great for snorkeling. We saw a group of 6 cuttlefish, an octopus, flounder, trumpetfish, all sorts of eels, etc. But, the corals are the amazing part.

As far as the island goes, check out the Ostrich Farm if you like to eat meat - it was sooo good we ate there twice in one day. The tour of the farm is cool, and the food is phenomenal! There's a Sushi/Japanese restaurant near Breezes that is good...and quiet. The Aloe Farm is kinda cool to tour. Definitely check out Boca Pistol and all of the northern side of the island. Very cool hiking. There's a section of the northern side where everyone writes their names and who they love in rocks - it's a massive area - really romantic and sweet. There has to be thousands of names written.

We stayed at KonTiki, and couldn't have asked for a more beautiful hotel. It's a bit more rustic and authentic than the Breezes right beside it, but we loved it!!! We were the only Americans, which made it quite nice. It was just soooo pretty!!

Dining is safe pretty much throughout the island. Driving is also fairly safe (and on the right side). Just watch out for the random goats and dogs and take the best map you can find...there aren't any road-signs. You can drive from one end of the island to the other in about an hour.

We absolutely loved Curacao - beautiful island, happy people, great scuba, and a quiet get-a-way. Can't recommend you get out and enjoy every part of it as much as possible!

I'm trying to post some pictures up for you, but Photobucket is going insanely slooow. So, here are a couple...best I can do for now. Oh yeah, Hatas Caves was cool (cave inside an old volcano) and the fresh open-water boat market was neat.

Obviously I don't have a good underwater camera, but here's a bad photo of Mushroom Forest

Mecheng99,

Thanks for the info. Exactly the kind of posts I was hoping for. I would love to see more pics!

Everybody,

Keep the suggestions coming. Our trip isn't until mid october! Love to hear about any curacao island experiences.

Curacao is interesting, however, the water is a little cooler and the Island is fairly dry. Diving near the seaquarium is a little better, as there is a nice wall dive area. The town is quite interesting, with a fairly rich history.

we are staying at the breezes just a few doors down from the sea aquarium.

Then there you are  You'll like the seaquarium as a touristy yet relaxing shallow dive too, as they have a shark/ray feeding tank there. :strooper:

Not Curacao, but I did dive Bonaire (other side of Aruba). It was incredible. I know Bonaire is famous for unlimited shore diving, but not sure about Curacao
