Any experience with Nano-Tuners? Or other advice?

OK, for the second time in a relatively short period, the lighting on my daughter's NanoCube 12DX has crapped out on me. The moonlights died long ago, but obviously I need the PC's. Has anyone had any experience with nanotuners.com? I was looking at their 3x24W and 4x24W custom hoods, and considering one of the 70W MH setups as well. The tank doesn't need to hold SPS, so the MH is probably overkill, as the 4 bulb fixture might be as well.

Or, alternately, does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd prefer to end up with a lid on it because of my kids' ages (10 and 3), but that's about my only restriction. I gave some thought to trying to build my own 70W MH hood, but I'm not sure I have it in me.

Thanks in advance,
Will

I am sure they work like a champ, but they are uber expensive. More than your nano costs retail. Why not just replace your current bulbs?

Well, if it were just the bulbs, I'd replace them. It's the ballast or something else in the stock JBJ electronics package that isn't worth much.

I won't know how much the hoods only are until I call them. The prices online are for those hoods with a tank and everything. Don't need the tank or stand or that stuff, so they will be at least $50-75 less, I imagine.

Thanks - did you get one of the assembled hoods or DIY items?

We have purchased items from Nano turners and had no problems.

No, we purchased a ATO from them and something but can't remember what. I do remember they ship really fast.

The replacement hood (you need) is $75. You can add an extra light with a retro kit for another $99. OR you can step up and spend $399 on the 70 watt upgrade. Then you are at least $475 plus shipping into a 12 gallon tank, plus what you spent originally.

OMG 400 bucks for a 70watt Mh Hood for a 12. Thats just retarded.
I don't have any experence with that hood but can you not just replace the ballast or are you just wanting an upgrade? I would probably be a little concerned with a 70watt Mh over a 12.. I had a eclipse 12 gallon that I upgraded the pcs on it. I think it only have 40 watts or something like that. It got pretty warm.. I'd think 70watt Mh over a 12 with pretty closed off hood would cause some major heat. I'd probably just stick to some PCs

Like I said, the MH was just a thought. I don't think I would have bought the $359 MH retro from them in any event - I know how to do it a lot cheaper than that.

Freddy - the complete 3x24W hood built by them with and a warranty is likely cheaper ($275 includes the tank I don't need and don't have to buy - read the red print on the page) than the replacement hood and $99 upgrade combo you mentioned, since I'd have to get the redesigned ballast along with the new hood, plus the $99 upgrade. Plus, if I go with nanotuners, I wouldn't have to deal with the JBJ electronics all over again. Given the trouble I've already had (more than once) with JBJ lighting, I'm inclined to go that way, thanks.

Or, maybe I'll decide that I'm OK with trusting JBJ again since the site Monica provided me with (thanks!) seems to indicate I'd be looking at about $163 plus shipping for the redesigned hood and ballast combo.

So I guess it comes down to whether I want 2x24 or 3x24.

I guess I am just confused about your situation. According to the site the "upgrade" kits are only to add to what is already working. If your stuff is jacked, then you will need to replace it all and add onto it if you want an upgrade. That is why I thought you would need the new hood. I did not realize the hood did not come with a ballast. That is no good for you. I am sure your hood is fine and that your electronics are just bad. Either way, I think you will be okay going with anything from them. I would recommend calling them instead of trying to order online. Obviously it is confusing right? Also, I get the feeling that many of the upgrades require other upgrades. I mean, why would they tell you that most customers see a 2-3 degree decline and then have a chiller available? Not sure I get that.

LOLOLOLOL. I just figured it all out. I have been looking at the nanocustoms site. NOT nanotuners. I always knew that I am mildly retarded but this takes the cake. Sorry to have messed up the whole thread. LOL.
