Hey guys and gals. Looking to see if there's someone with experience to drill my 40b for me. I drilled lots of acrylic tanks and 1 thick glass tank, but never a 1/4" thick glass tank and I'm a bit hesitant.

So, if y'all know of anyone that does this sort of thing, respond on this thread with contact info.

Thanks!

Where's soco?

My bad, sonoma county. I'm in Santa Rosa

Oh, well I called multiple glass companies 10+ yrs ago about drilling and none of them around this area could guarantee no shatter. So I waited longer to save money for a tank with an overflow. If you do find someone that guarantees no shatter please inform us for future reference.

I'm actually about to attempt drilling 2 40b tanks sometime this weekend. I ordered drill bits and a guide from BRS wich are due to arrive today. Ill report back on how it goes!

Nice! Please do! Like I said, I've drilled many acrylics and am in the tile and stone industry so ice drilled 100s of holes in granite slabs, etc, but never 1/4" glass and it makes me nervous for some reason

Hey Carlos remember when we drilled the 10 gallon LOL Diamond bits and plumbers putty with a hose running, going very slow with the drill. Drill drill drill shatter, damn it. Let's practice on the other sides. Drill drill drill shatter. Let's go to the next. Drill drill drill hole is successful. Ha ha ha I've actually done a 55 gallon glass I feel the thicker the glass the better your off.

I have a cracked 40b if anyone wants to attempt to drill some holes. I also have a couple bits from glass holes dot come. I've drilled several tanks with no issues and it's pretty straight forward, but I would t feel comfortable drilling someone else's tank.

I may take you up on that ssteve. I can throw some cash for using your bits too. You in Santa Rosa?

Yeah I'm in Santa Rosa. I have a 20L, 20h, and the cracked 40b sitting in my yard I'd like to get rid of. The 20g tanks are usable though but if you take either 20g and the 40b you have have the bits.

i can't say I'm experienced but I have drilled a few tanks and have not cracked one yet.... only a few chips on one side where the drill bit comes out.

I tested a few holes through scrap 1/4 inch glass to get comfortable before I drilled through 1/2 inch glass. Well worth the extra time.

Hey Steve I drove by you today and waved. Way to just ignore me man! I was coming from fish pros an you were crossing the street!

All my drilling stuff came in, I think Sunday will be drill day. When I'm done ill share my experience as well as hole saws and drill guide!

Steve was kind enough to pass his drill bits and a junk tank for practice my way. I'm gonna do some test runs this weekend. I'm very familiar with drilling granite freehand, so I figured glass can't be that different. I'll let you know how it goes

Glass vs. ROCK. Might be a little different. :)

Repeating what I just posted on BAR site:
Well nevermind! I see you just read it.

Good luck with the project!

I have a drill press if u wana use that instead of the drill guide from brs. I dont like that guide. I found the guide to be such a pain to use.

If you want to avoid chipping about the edges drill the hole about half way through then drill through the other direction to finish the cut
