actually no. i have not seen their livestock.....can u tell me more? are they as bad as 6th ave? i was always tempted to go check it out, but was told it is in a real bad area. i heard that the block that they are on is the boundary between two gangs.
Hehehe... I grew up in the Mission next to a housing project in a neighborhood exactly like that, so that didn't bother me. Actually, I felt quite at home :)

Here's what you do... you put on that look and that walk, and inside your head you go, "yo yo yo... don't mess wit me man... I'll go kung fu on your azz!" J/k

Just don't go walking around looking like a victim :D

As for the livestock... just go check it out, and form your own opinion. Everybody should go just once :)

Besides, the burritos and vietnamese sandwiches are good in that neighborhood :)

well, i'm kinda nerdy looking, is it really worth the time and risk? i not gonna go there to save a buck, but will check it out if they have something worth the effort. i'm not necessarily looking for rare, just well kept specimens.

mr. ugly,
do you know what brands of salt New Alameda carries? I havent had time to find new salt yet to replace my bad kent salt. Thanks.

Hmmm.... couldn't really say. I use IO, so I don't pay attention to the other stuff. I do remember seeing bags of Ocean Pure this week. The regular, not Pro... I think. I didn't look closely at the label.

I always eat @ Sushi Maru but when I'm there it's usually dinner time so they're already closed. I know there's a fish store there but from the outside it looks like a hole in the wall kinda place. Any other reasons to be there beside salt? Good price on live stocks perhaps?

Anyone know their business hours?

check them out when you get a chance. The owner is really nice. He doesn't work on the Sunday but the store is open on Sunday.

Hi Fat Walrus,

I just called Natural Life Aquarium at 305 Town and Country, Sunnyvale, CA (408) 733-1399 and got a quote for $49.99 on the 200g. Can I use you as a reference when I go there tonight? Since you have deal with him, I would love to get 2 to 3 at $34.99. Thanks.

I only use IO salt. I've not bought salt from NLA yet. I will this weekend. I can check out the price for you when I'm there. What are you looking for?

I'm running out of IO so I'm thinking of dropping by tonight for some IO 200g. Since the price quoted today was much higher than ($49.99) via what Fat Walrus indicated ($34.99), I hated to get yell at or ruined his day by ackal on the price.

Still thinking of going or not to go!

I just went to natural Life, and the their price of IO is about $37 for 160G bucket now:(. The guy I talked to said that they had a promotional sale with the manufacture quite a while back, but no more. ...

Vtrieu88, you are welcome.

Danny, their coral selection is not very good at the moment, but I saw some unopened boxes from new shipment. I did not pay attention to their fish collection. The place is tight like most smaller fish stores, but they do seems to have a good selection of dry goods. I do not think their price to be cheap. I talked to their owner a few times in the past, who is friendly and always voice his opinions on things. He told me that Matt's rainbow monti started from his store when Matt was working for him, and the store still have the original rainbow.

you got to talk to the owner. i think his name is Mayfield. if you tell him what you have bought it for before from him or what is available elsewhere he'll usually find a way to make it worthwhile. the employees have no agenda but to get through the day and go home. it matters little to them whether you walk out happy or not, but i know the owner certainly cares. try calling ahead of time and speak to him. i know that he always run specials with different salt brands so you gotta tell him what u want.

i think the problem is first u are not talking to the owner when u called, and that second problem is that he is always running specials on one brand or another so that the employees are themselves confused. just call and talk ti him or go in on a saturday when he is there all day. his sales are usually good, our problem is that by the time we want to buy it, the sale is over. talk to him.

so the price is good if it's only on sale?and had to talk to the owner to haggle the price ?that cool if u have alot time on your hand.Nah,i go to lucky ocean or 6th ave.their price alway the same no need to haggle.gl
