Any hope for my Palys?

I bought a frag with 4 "Armor of Gods" Palys from another reefer a few weeks ago. For the first 2 weeks, they always stayed open, then one by one, the closed completely. They've all been completely closed for about the last week. I tried moving them lower in the tank, but they're still closed. Below is a picture. Are these palys completely closed, or have them "melted"? You can see a white spot in the picture just right of the palys, almost touching....does that look like fungus or maybe a paly that was broken off during fragging? Do you think it would be worthwhile to do a fresh water dip in RO/DI ? Thanks! Pam

They still look good to me, I'd leave them in the same spot and see if they open back up, if not then change their location. I've had zoas close for a few days to a week and they'll open back up, so be patient with them. They still look healthy so hopefully they'll be ok. Now, those white spots on the actual polyps are just sand/detris right?
As for the bare spot, it looks like a polyp was fragged/moved.
Good luck.

Hi Superfishy. I noticed the white spots, so took a look in the tank, and can't see them with the naked eye. I was zoomed in with the camera, so that picked them up. Strange how they were open for two weeks, and then closed. My parameters are fine, and I have another larger frag of zoos that is doing well, and a mushroom and leather that are doing well. Glad to know that they are closed and not melted.

Thanks!
Pam

If those were my zoas, I would do an R/O & iodine dip on them.
That's if they were mine.
That way you can get whatever the little white specks off of it. Those may be the reason for the closed polyps. Maybe you have "junk" building up between the polyps, causing them to be irritated.
JMO.

I did a 10% water change tonight, not because I thought it would help my Paly's but because it was overdue (has been about 12 days since the last one). I hadn't seen the palys open AT ALL in at least a week or two. I pulled out 10% of the water and blew off a bunch of dietrus on the rocks and all of a sudden, I looked at the palys and I could see color peaking out. I haven't seen any color for over a week. Wouldn't you think that blowing the dietrus off the rock would cause them to close, not open? Here's a picture of them tonight. Bye. Pam

I will. :) But wouldn't you think that all the crap in the water from cleaning the rock, would have kept them closed? Didn't expect that. Maybe because the water was low (I shut off the return pump) it caused the flow to be much stronger which either cleaned off the palys or stimulated them??

Bye
Pam

That's great news! Post a pic when they open fully.

Along the same lines, my PPE were doing fine in my tank for about a year or so. Then all of a sudden they closed and stayed that way for a week or two. Out of fear of losing them, I put them in my nano upstairs and they opened right up. All the other zoas/palys are doing great in their respective tanks. Just the PPE were closed. Weird.

Ta Daaaaaaaa!! After two weeks of being closed, my "Armor of Gods" Palys totally opened up again! :) Looks like the water change is what sparked them to open again, although water parameters are the same before and after the change.
