Any idea what this is?

I had similar looking stuff on my rock. Was told many different things; one of them being green coraline which I tend to agree with. Eventually most of it turned into either purple coraline or cleared up. It happened around 2-3 months after starting up and now i'm 5 months in. I've since added a gfo reactor which may have helped out but not sure. I did make a post about it way back if you want to match up my photos and see but it looks pretty darn close to what I had.

Anyways hope it clears up or turns purple soon. Good luck!!

Thanks for the response. Wouldn't mind if it ends up being purple coraline. How long did it before turned to coraline or clear up. I'm going to look up your thread now to compare.

its still turning purple. i've got a ways to go. the green started clearing up/turning purple after about 4-6 weeks from when I first noticed it.

Just typical green algae. If you want coralline keep your magnesium at 1200 or so, and it'll multiply if there's any in the tank.

Mattyg18 - after looking at your pics, I would think its the same thing. We'll just have to see how it plays out. By the way, I also have an explosion of copepods which you can see in detail in the video below. But whats interesting about that video are the green\yellow stuff stuck on the glass.

I had some of this, not near as much. It was in my 55 gallon when I was lazy on care. I then got a gfo reactor and a bigger tank and much better maintenance and I don't see it anymore. My 55 was a year old when I moved to the new tank.
