that line and the white marks around his head is HLLE. was he a new addition? what are his other tankmates? some ppl say that HLLE is caused by stress and malnutrition. i have a yellow tang that i am just starting to see signs of regression with HLLE. when i got him he was very skinny and had this as well. i fattened him up and he is in a stress free environment and is doing much better.

I don't really see any white spots around his head. I think it's marine ich, and the lines are most likely bones/body structures.

Yes he was a recent addition. I also have a smaller purple tang and larger yellow tang.

Purple goes after the blue so i am currently putting him up for trade :-(

I bet this is the exact reason why he looks bad

oh man bad news, if you have a quarantine tank put him in there to have chance of him surviving and feed him alot of purple nori.

Yup looks like ich to me...Bad news for you because I guess you did not QT. Now that your main tank has ich you have a couple options. Remove all your fish and treat them with Cupramine for 4 weeks in a treatment tank leaving your main display empty of fish for 12 weeks.....OR do nothing and hope for the best. I choose option 1 because I did not want to worry about every new fish I add to the tank causing an outbreak that could wipe my tank out. Your call....Thats why QT should be practiced. It saves a great deal of aggrevation. Your purple will probably show signs next, then the yellow......Good Luck.

ICH, ICH ICH, put him in a QT and treat with Cupramine like RBU1 has suggested. Also, use Selcon on some Nori to boost his vitamin intake. You can put it directly into the water if he is not eating.

Again, just like RBU1 said your other tangs will get it next. By removing the Blue Powder, it will be less stress for all. Your Blue tang will die within a week or so if he is left in the main tank and not eating. Not to speak of an out break of ich for your other fish.

I have been there done that.

QT,QT,QT,QT.............................. Saves fish, money, and time.

Hes not that bad with ICH as in the picture in the link but hes is eating a ton. I need to remove my purple tang from the equasion and i think this will solve all my problems. working on getting a fish trap.

I think you have a few problems with that fish.

- I see a few ick spots but that seems to be more of a secondary infection.

- It could just be ick scars but it looks like its got something else on it's skin like maybe some sort of worms. That's not a diagnosis. More of a place to start researching.

- The fact that you say it's eating while still losing weight makes me think of both intestinal worms and possible cyanide collection. It also has great coloration despite it's condition which is also common with cyanide.

I would start with the weight loss and work your way down from there. The ick is the least concerning to me. Those guys are very succeptable to ick.

The one thing I would absolutely do is to move it to a hospital tank at a lowered SG. I do mine at 1.009.

Good luck.

Also if you're feeding something with poor nutritional value like brine shrimp, you might try something with more nutrition like red nori in the AM and mysis in the PM. It can help with energy levels.

Treat for Flukes. I lost a PBT because I thought he had ick but it was flukes. Its easy to treat with prazil and fresh water dips. Remove him from your tank do a fresh water dip for a minimum of 5 minutes and a max of 10 in a small container or bowl, you must match the temperature to the tank temp first. You will see alot of little white specks floating or falling to the bottom of the container. Return your fish to the DT and within a hour he'll be a lot happier. Then you can treat for ick because he probably has that too. Ick prone fish should always be treated for flukes and ick before adding to a Display Tank or your just regret it later.

That is undoubtedly cryptocaryon. I have a PBT who struggled with it for at least 3 years and he can look like that at certain stages. If you have a large tank with good water parameters the situation might contain itself. But you need to address the aggression that has him looking so bad. He is also skinny. Are you feeding algea on a clip everyday? Than might help along with foods soaked in vitamins.
