I was thinking about getting 2 ten-gallon tanks and drilling both of them on the sides and connecting them with some sort of pipes. Anyone do this before? Any ideas? Help will be appreciated.

oh yea, these will be used as a fuge under my tank. my 20 long doesnt fit down there.

That doesn't make sense. A 20L is the same as 2 10g next to each other. Do you mean a 20T?

nothing bigger than a 10 gal fits....... everything else is to wide. even the 20 tall

Suliaman, what are the dimensions of the space you have to work with? Have you looked at all of the tank sizes that AGA sells to see if there is something that will fit? Here is a link: http://www.all-glass.com/products/aquariums/index.html
If none of the standard sizes work, maybe a used acrylic sump would fit in your space. I see them for sale pretty often. (or maybe have one made?)
If you are determined to drill two 10's and connect them, you could probably make it work by getting threaded bulkheads and then look for a threaded pvc nipple for the right size, which will allow the pipe to be removed and not force you to have 3-5" of seperation between the tanks. I haven't seen a many larger than 3/4" of an inch, but you might be able to find one on-line or at a commercial plumbing store. (I can find a name of one in Aurora if you want). Otherwise if you can live with having them permanantly connected to the bulkheads, get slip fittings and connect the tanks together with spa-flex so the holes don't have to line up perfectly.
Personally, I don't see any problem with chaining a couple of tanks together. I think you just need to make sure your plumbing is large enough to support the flow you plan to run through it and set it up so it isn't likely to get clogged and overflow.

i alrady have the 10 gals in hand, thats wht i wanted to use them. but i didnt even think of the 15 tall. do any of you have one for sale?
Don't drill. Get a few PVC elbows and make a U from one tank to another. A 2" PVC will get you between 700-1000gph. Then use a little air hose to start the water flow, like an overflow bow.
What about a plastic container from Target? The 20-24 gallons has the same dimention as the 10 gal, but only taller. You can cut the top to match your need. Just a thought.

I drilled holes in both and connected them together with a piece of flexible tubing.
I used flexible tubing connectors available at Menard's and clamped them with hose clamps on the outside. The only problem going that route is there would be a gap between the two tanks...may 2-3". Don't know how much room you need.
Also, I read somewhere on here once that all 10 gallons are tempered. I don't know if that's true or not. I had one I was going to have drilled but decided not to chance it. Just something else to think of.
