In my tank recently i have noticed something growing all over my live rock. It looks just like a bud on a mople tree (kind of maroonish in color) they look almost like a little tree growing. I also noticed my emerald green crabs like to eat it. Anyone have an idea what this stuff is?

Would be hard to tell without a picture. Can you post one?

Sure it is some kind of algea, though. Do the emeralds keep it under control?

Is this the thing you are talking about?

That is most probably a foraminiferan (although some hydroids could look like that too)
They are harmless filterfeeding critters wich also form a calcium carbonate skeleton.

OMG, this is too funny. :lolspin:

Honestly, I don't know, have looked but have yet to find out, and decided to join in your thead to see if that is what it was.

Yes, It just developed a few days ago. That one is rather large compared to the others. Look what I found when I googled "foraminiferan"
