hey guys,

so trying to break into the corals and (finally!) learned that it's time to move on from the T12s. anyone have any lights available for a 75gal tank? i believe 48' is what we're lookin for...

depending on price might have to wait for tax return but i'd appreciate any feed back on suggestions for someone new to corals who's looking to expand over the next few years!

That's an awesome price for a six bulb fixture............
You could upgrade reflectors, bulbs and ballast as you can afford it.

Good call Ray!

thanks much guys!! i'm still terribly confused by the "mechanical" stuff of the tank (that's what the boyfriend is for). i just know that my corals will want something more to be happy!

Haha. Depending on what kind of corals you're going to go with, you may want to look into some way to drip/dose kalkwasser (lime water) or a calcium reactor. Either would serve the function of boosting your calcium without you having to worry about using two part dosing every other day or so. Kalkwasser also has the added benefit of boosting protein skimmer efficiency, but does raise pH if you're not careful about when and how much and how quickly you dose it.

Actually I think its easier to dose 2 part solution but I never tried dripping kalkwasser (even though I have the pickling lime).

i just buy the two-part in bulk from bulkreefsupplies, mix it with my ro/di in gallon jugs, and add 40-50ml of each when I top off the tank each night

we're still terribly new to corals so we currently have some frogspawn, some mushrooms and xenia(hence the need for new lighting ASAP!) and hoping to do some ricordias and dabble in the "easier" corals for the first year or so til we're totally comfortable with what we're doing!

i will keep the kalkwasser and calc reactor in mind but for the time (and economic purposes) i think we're going to hang on to the 2 part chems...

thanks tho!

you wouldn't need them until/unless you start getting a lot more calcium and alkalinity demand in your tank than you currently have.
