Any Mantis for a JBJ Pico tank?

Hey everyone, I'm thinking abot getting a JBJ pico tank for my birthday. They're 3gals with a 40gph filter and 9watt PC light. I was wondering if I could put a small mantis in there and do some cool aquascaping and some zoo's and star polyps in the tank. Any mantis's out there that would be ok in that tank and if anyone online sells them. Thanks everyone

Ithough about doing one with my N. Wennerae for my fiances work, but bottom line, too small. I would say 5g is the smallest i would go for the smallest species.

Yea, unfortunately thats what I figured. So it looks like I'll make a 5 gal. Pico....anyone know where to get a N. Wennerae?...thanks for the advice guys.

thanks Agu, it does appear they have them in stock. Are they bad shippers? and is 50 bucks a good price for one? Thanks guys.

they are great shipper, when I ordered two from them a while back, they said that they can last several days to a week in the shipment bag! Granted I got them with in 24-36 hours, they were in great health. 50 bucks aint bad, but you can get TWO for $60! See if you can convince a friend to split it with you and get them addicted to the coolest marine critter!-thats what i did.... If you buy from somewhere else, your likely to drop ~$30-40 on the mantis and another ~$40 on shipping.... so even $50 for one is not bad...

thanks man, they are def. awesome little critters...as long as I don't get nailed by it. Haha...thanks guys. Now to go buy my tank and get it set up.

Hey is it likely that the N. Wennerae will break my glass in my glass tank? I know its the smasher type and they're quite capable of breaking things.

Fun little buggers. Mine would take Krill from your fingers, and had several Damesls as roomates, and even left peppermint shrimp alone.
In a 5 gal I would highly recommend against addign Star Polyps. they will cover everythign ncluding your Zoanthids. Heck I wouldn't recommend them to anyone with a 500 gal tank. VERY aggressive coral.

wow thats awesome...the N. Wennerae seem very cool and TBS has them in stock. So as soon as my tank is up and cycled i'll be getting one. My friend has a gorilla crab that is a 1/4'' he wants to be rid of, I think I have the perfect solution for him. haha

tons...when I looked into shipping it was around 40 bucks, considering if you pick up the mantis its only $10 and its $50 to have it shipped to your door.

How much does TBS charge for shipping?

We do not charge anything for shipping, it is the post office/fed ex/airlines that set the shipping charges...they all have minimum shipping charges, thus it is expensive to ship only one item priority overnight!

sorry about the misrepresentation LiveRock, shouldn't have worded it that way. Your mantis shrimp look awesome!:D

No biggie!

but it was good info you put out there....as everybody asks the same question about shipping...I wish it was up to us what it cost to ship overnight!!
Thanks!

question guys, the guy at this LFS that I usually don't go to told me that if I bought a small peacock that he would not out grow a 10g tank because it'll only grow as big as his surroundings. Is he right? I mean could it just stop growing because the tank is too small? Or will it grow to its full length of 8inches? Thanks everyone.

:mad2: there is nothinng I hate more than to hear that someone has been told this. That is the worst myth in the buisness. There is a reason you don't go there, just add this to the list. They also tell people that a panther grouper will grow to fit a 55, just to increase their profits. Your dog is just as likely to grow to a crate as that Mantis to a 10.
hops off soap box

Granted though it will be a while, but what if the one they get in is a monster? My LFS was just telling me aobut the monster Peacock they got in. Made the owner a fan of the criters. :) Its was quickly bought and is now in a 120 reef (owner doesn't care what it eat, he is in love) and eating out of the guy's hand.
