Any members from Island of Puerto Rico?

I am interested to know if a United States fishing license is valid for collecting in Puerto Rico? I have had no luck finding the information. I wanted to know if any member that are residing in Puerto Rico at the present can answer this question and point me to a Web source.

Thanks!

Here's a link to our fishing bylaws, it's in Spanish..sorry.

I already read the article, but I have two questions:

Where or what website can I visit to get a fishing permit that I can legally use for Ornamental Marine collecting?

Is collecting totally illegal or is it permitted like in Florida, with permit?

I will not be collecting coral or liverock, just organizms found under rocks and on mangrove prop roots in the Lajas or Guanica area. I read somewhere collection is only permitted 9 nautical miles out. Please answer my questions; I am planning an April trip for a week and was planning on sending back the catch by Fedex.

I am going to ride along, as I am planning a potential trip to PR next year and would like to collect SPS if possible.

What part and when?

Hard corals are banned from collection by Federal law and treaty with other Tropical West Atlantic Nations. So no collecting SPS anyplace in the Caribbean ;)

Haven't decided where quite yet. Depends on what I learn from my fellow reefers!
I am open to any and all suggestions.

I am considering the Southwest coast (Cabo Rojo, Lajas or Guanica). I will not be collection hard coral or liverock, just softies, zoos and whatever I find under rocks and reef rubble areas.

Those are fine, even inverts, just not corals, including sea fans. As long as the mangrove are pods that's ok, once they root they're off limits.. You can collect by the shore.

Sadly for those who plan to collect, mus be willing to pay. The DRNA Departamento de Recursos Naturales de PR patrol all the beaches and reef areas.

like gman say you can collect by the shore, just don't tanke any coral or a mangrove that already had develope roots.

Iother thing is. You can collect some stuff here and keep it but the Aduana y the airpot won't let you take anything out of the island unless you have a license for it.

The question now would be; how do you get that special license to get the collection out of the island?

I used to collect and export form there but ten years ago, you only needed the fish boxes to be checked for live rock/coral that was it, i don't think the laws have changed since one of my costumers here in US ( I own a hatchery now) imports thousands of fish from there everyweek.

Your best bet is to call DRNA in PR and ask they will tell you what to do, they speak english , most but with that handle you have you could speak spanish yourself, I know i do :D
