Any of you guys do paddline of any sort?

I wouldn't say we do a lot of it, but we've gone white-water rafting over in east TN on the Ocoee the last 3 years and it's a blast. This year we did the Hiwassee - did a regular raft and a funyak. Turned out to be more fun than I thought it would be...although much calmer than the Ocoee.

I can imagine it would be much calmer. 
My favorite river so far has been the Upper Nolichucky... some class IV up in there!
Plus its one of the deepest natural gorges this side of the Mississippi! Absolutely beautiful...
Its yet another expensive hobby, so I'll probably just end up renting stuff every once in a while... not to mention I don't have room to store a boat right now.

We have done the Nolichucky and ocoee. The ocoee had some awsome class 3's and a 4 but we hit it just right in a rainy spell about 6 years ago and it was great. It is a beauliful river even on slower water days and a great time.
The New River in West Va. was by far the best I have done. My hubby went back and did the Gauley in West Va. and it was crazy. You have to have a Resume' of rivers under your belt to even get on the river. They spent a lot of time swimming and they all had lots of experience rafting! They were talking a lot of smack to the guide about hitting the rapids hard though :lol:. Also it only runs in the spring and fall (they did fall) so they about froze there butts off!
I also did a kyaking class on the ocoee and it is WAY, WAY harder than it looks. I had a new appreciation for the sport after that day. Ah, the great fun of days gone by! Now that I have kids I don't think I would be brave enouph to go down a river. Things change so dramatically when you have little ones to think about leaving mamaless if I got tossed out on a rapid named "the meat cleaver" or something like that. They all have such interesting names ya know. Its too dangerouse for my tastes now but I loved being an adrinalin junky before kids.

Back in the day I paddled quite a bit. I learned at summer camp on the Caney Fork, and my first taste of moving water was below the Rock Island dam by the power plant (not too far from here if you want to play a little). Have been on the Ocoee, Nantahala, Chattooga, Hiawasee, and Nolichucky. Have also rafted some out west, and in W. Va when I was in college in Va. These days, it's either rafting, or floating via canoe.
The wife & I have Kayaks, but class 3 is the limit for us & our kayaks. There 10' recreational verity. The Nantahala & Big South Fork are good for our level. This year hasn't been a good year. (Ya kinda need rain) The only place around here for whitewarter is East Tennessee. Prity much on the rivers mintioned.
