Any Pump preferences for a return?

So I'm about to plumb my tank and I'm not sure which pump to use. The tank is 100 gal with a 40 gal sump/refugium and I'd like the water to flow 10-15/hour tank volume. Any preferences for pumps? I'm guessing that a 1400gph pump will do the job. They have one at my LFS (didn't get brand name) for $200. Is that about right for a pump of that size?

Make sure your over flow can handle that much water. Otherwise you will need a T fitting to direct some of the flow back yo the sump

Is there a way to figure out the flow your overflow can handle? My tank has dual overflows with 1 inch holes per overflow so I think it should be okay.

I'll second the eheim recommendation.

Food for thought....flown through your sump should be 3-5x tank volume to maximize your skimmers effectiveness.

I love the Eheim as well, I use the 1260 on my tank no problems and very quiet. You would probably want the 1262.

I also run my carbon and phosban reacors from my return as well.

So I did some research and realized that the pump im using in my curing setup is actually a Mag 12. So I've decided to just use this one instead of getting a new one. Now is 1200gph too muck for a 100 gallon tank? After some different posts I've found that 300-500 got is desirable. Am I good with this pump?

Probably too much, but it depends on head loss and if you plan to run other things off the return line that would cut down on flow to the DT....like the reactors mentioned above.

1 inch drains are going to drain about 600gph each so you will need to dial back the return a bit or you will be at your max in drains but its always better to have a little to much then to little.

As stated above dial it back and use it to run your reactors as well.

need to reduce the flow for the sump to like 500-600 gallon per hour. Use powerheads to get the rest of the turnover, will save you some money on energy in the long run. Ehiem is great and Sicce is silent. I have the Ehiem 1262

Currently, I use an Eheim 1260 and love it. I actually T my return and it powers my GFO reactor as well.

I just got the water blaster pump and like it, its powerful yet quiet and if I remember correctly comes with a 3 year warranty. I know the eheims are really popular but never had one as a return pump.

So far I've been happiest with my Tunze Silence, which I installed a year ago.

Just replaced my return pump because of noise and vibration. I have a 140 gal tank and, after much studying, I went a Flowstar 1500. As far as controlling the flow install a valve on the return line before the Tee (if you have corner returns). This will create backpressure on the pump and with this pump and a few others it will reduce the electric load saving you a little. Check into this pump mine is way quite.
