any recommendations on home depot fuge light

looking for a better light than I have now I'm hoping to find a screw in type looking "flood light" Does anyone have any recommendations like this that I can find at home depot/ lowes and not have to order?

You can use any base that will hold a screw in light bulb. and Go to Wal-mart and get the 6500k PC bulbs there are 2 of them I think for $9.

Yes they say 6500k on them but it might be on the back.. The package is easy to find.. Because they have a ton of them in Yellow package and some in BLUE. the Blue are the 6500k. They come in a few different wattages too.

at this time im only using the "bowl" shaped reflector clamped above the fuge and not getting much growth on cheato, but the spiral bulb im using is old and small. I think I will go with two lights since they come in a two pack.. thanks for the details on them!

Do some reading on the package though. Go for at least 5000K ones. They'll have it printed on the white base so you may need to look at multiple packages to see all the printing.

Mark Levenson has a thread about fuge lights, and has done some experiments, and recommends a 5100K bulb for growing macro algae.

No need to go above 6500. I think I've found 5000, 5100, 5500, and 6500's at different times. They stopped carrying the Commercial electric ones at home depot and now carry some red colored label brand but you'll find the right ones it just may take a bit of looking.

I use Lights of America fixture from HD. I have been using it for 8 months now and still great growth in cheato. I went to HD yesterday and they are still selling these fixtures and replacement bulbs.

I use the same thing. Here it is when I first put it in. The cheato takes up almost the entire 'fuge now and I pitch at least 1/3 of it every couple/few weeks.

Those pack a much better punch than the commercial electric ones. Same principal but in 65 watts vs. 14 or 19. I actually grew some corals in a tank with 4 of them over it. Wasn't quick growth but they grew.

I have had great luck just lighting my lighter over my fuge every time I hear a Led Zeppelin tune- at the same time I also do the KSHE95 "rock on" hand sign and everything has grown amazingly well. My cheato will positively grow when they hear-Moxy, Triumph, Rush, Angel, Steppenwolf, Stones, FastLane, Shooting Star, Traffic, Humble Pie, URIAH HEEP!! (local), and a few Marshall Tucker Band songs.

I have also noticed a decrease in growth when the fake Van Halen is played-but a much increased growth when David Lee Roth was on lead vocals-my cheato prefers Women and Children First.

To be quite honest it will also react quite well to Montrose-so that shoots the whole Sammy Hagar thing out the window.
Every now and then I will throw on a Zebra "No Tellin Lies" but I have to light the lighter extra hard for that album-so it could be a light thing instead of the music.
Older Pink Floyd albums seem to bring a calmness to the pods and Cheato-but the new suedo copy Techno Pink Floyd wannabe turn the cheato very pale!

I have not tried to play my cheato any R&B except old school-Marvin Gaye--etc..but the lighter is really going then

I did try a few Country and Western tunes but that did not get my lighter going-just the shot glass

All in all it is just an experiment in the diversity of lighting. The weird thing is I only listen to AM 590 and 1380.

home depot did not have 5100k lights, i did see 5500k (said it on the back of the package).. I have not checked wally world yet though. I'f I can find 5100k I'm going to get them otherwise 5500K it is.
