Any substitute for Prazipro?

calk me Q

New member
Several fish in my QT showed symtom of "Flicking" "Annoying" "Shaking pelvic fin" "shaking heads"

....No white spot, FW dip the victims but problem persists.
i dosed Seachem. No help.
I know there is one product called prazipro that is effective in eradicating parasite like this. But here i cant find one on sale( which means i have to find a substitute for it)

So, anyone could help?

1. what is the desease? I would like to know the fact about it
2. How to treat it without Prazipro( what other product can be reliable and effective "?

Thx for your help, really appreciate it!

i checked, found nothing ,no velvet. Are you referring to what was found in the FW dip? If so you will not find velvet in a dip. Velvet is diagnosed/confirmed through skin and gill scrapes. Quqon
But a suspicious red string( 4 mm long i think, very thing), i dont know whether it is the fluke because it was too small to identify.
Not a fluke. More than likely some sort if worm.

and im also curious about that if i dose the copper in parrerel, can i eradicate their cilia larva so that i may cut off their life cycle?

If so , my philosiphy of treatment would be 1) FW drip all of my fish to kill the parasite and 2)does copper(keep the level constantly for a period) in the entire tank to kill the potential larva? Does this make sense?

If you figure out the proper dosing, you should be able to use praziquantel from the farm store (used to deworm livestock) without any ill effects.

Yes, do u have any reference or empiric??

I just checked prazipro active ingredients and its dosage isntructions as:

Measure at the rate of 1 tsp per 20 gallons. One ounce per 120 gallons. This produces a concentration of 2.5 mg/L.

Ingredients : Oxybispropanol (as an inert solubilizing agent) and <5% praziquantel by weight.

SO i did the calculation according to the concentration of 2.5mg/L,
2.5*120gallon*3.7=1110mg(active praziquantel)=1.11g
1.11g/ 1ounce*28.35= 31.47g
concentration: 1.11/31.47= 0.03527=3.5%, thats in the scope of <5% right?

So next time ill just dose either to meet 2.5mg/L in the tank or make preparations of solution of 3.5% same as Prazipro.

I think if this is true, i can also run a fish drug store.:lolspin:

Copper will not eradicate flukes but it has been shown to kill some of them. You would have better luck doing FW dips (water temp, pH matched) for no more than 5 minutes and putting it into a new QT. Are you able to get formalin there?

Yes, formalin is common treatment here. From the article, i was informed how to eradicate the Flukes on the fish however how could i deal with the Larva in the QT? Any way or medicine to treat the QT?
