Any suggestions for a Ca reactor?

I really need to suck it up and buy a Ca reactor. I've been dosing B-ionic 2-part for quite some time and I'm getting tired of it. Also, I think that my SPS have been suffering due to alk. swings from when I forget to dose.

Tank....
55g with three clams and a lot of SPS and LPS corals.

One day, I'll have a larger tank around 300g. I hope to add on a chamber when I upgrade to the larger tank.

Any ideas or suggestions? Anything you hate? There's just so many choices.

I was planning on using a Milwaukee pH controller.

I would recommend pinpoint...the Milwaukee is ok but there probes are garbage and not precise at all..plus they dont last very long...the pinpoint unit is a lot more $$$ though...but it also goes to .00 decimal points while the Milwaukee is only .0

not sure about the Calc reactor but I am interested in one also for a future setup

There is a nano reactor called Acro Cal Nano Coral Reef Calcium Reactor. Its rated 10g - 75g. It goes for $50. I will PM you a link.

Thanks everyone.

I posted this thread because I want to make sure that I spend my money well. I hate buying stuff in duplicates because I made a poor choice the first time around.

So, no Milwaukee, Pin point only if I don't use a system like a Neptune controller.

I used to have a Milwaukee pH meter and had no problems with it's measurement values. I had compared it to the new Hanna "Checker" meter I replaced it with and they read the same. The Milwaukee meter has an accuracy of +/- .2 . I could not find any info on the accuracy of the Pinpoint. The higher resolution of the Pinpoint is nice though as mentioned by chiahead.

If anyone is looking to get an inexpensive pH meter for quick tests, the "Checker" from Hanna is only about $25 on ebay and is shipped from a vendor in Scottsdale. I am happy with mine so far. The probe is repl. too.

Korallin in the best i have seen in I mid range stuff

You dont even use a pH controller but i have one for back up

The pump will air lock it co2 over dose so you dont even have to worry about the co2 going into the tank

You just get a pH meter for the tank water .....

just run about 40 to 50 drops out of the korallin and about 30 drops of CO2 in and the out put is around 6.8 ph cheak with meter ... then ajust the korallin to fine tune it in to 6.8 ph coming out
Then put ph meter back to tank water and you set!!
Check you DKH evry day for a week then every few day intell your sure your runing fine

I know Bahabum , Maxfam , me (Army67romeo) are all runing korallin's

CrashPD was runing one before he sold off his sys ....

They are a faul safe type Ca reactor ....love mine yes it will run your big sys you will get

Yeah, the Korallin is a really good unit. I sold mine to Richard (baja) and AFAIK he likes it. It does take quite a while to get one dialed in correctly, but once you are familiar with what happens when the bubble and drip rate is altered, it's a piece of cake.

100g is IME, the min volume for the Korallin to function properly. You can use one on a smaller tank if you have the time to tinker with it. I would like to try one of the new nano reactors but I have a 10 year supply of alk already.

I learnd just to change the drip rate on the out put .... and get a good needle vavle on the co2 which in the same on other reactors

Need good co2 needle valve ....

baha's got two of them now he liked the one some much he went a bought the 2d one like a week later

I was thinking of buying a Koralin reactor but i read plenty of bad post's. They are supposed to be hard to dial in and replacement parts are hard to come by.

I have a full 5lb Co2 cylinder. I just have to bite the bullet and by the regulator and reactor.

That's the one.

It's all about the needle valve. The more precision the better. The one that comes with the Korallin is ok, but there are much better ones available, for a price though. When I used mine, I was happy with it, it took about 2 months of "break in" time before it would stabilize without daily tweaking. The only reason I sold it to Baja was because it was way too big for my 30g. Maybe Baja will post about his experiences with the Korallin.

I'm getting a reactor for my 150 and i have my heart is set on the korallin! a buddy of mine has one and he has had zero problems with it. in my opinion great bang for the buck. and is pretty compact size which is also a great thing for me. considering my stand has an interier dimension of 48L x 24W x 32H. with a fuge that is 36L x 16W x 18H, 3 precision marine reverse flow substrate reactors a 15w uv sterilizer, the new korallin reactor w 5lbs Co2 cylinder, and an AquaC 240 skimmer all jammed under there. well not jammed. when i designed the system i wanted i made sure that i knew what brands and models of equiptment i wanted and it all fits like a glove and is very tidy with still plenty of service room. um anyway go with the korallin, it is worth it.

Baja is out of town in tell wedsday....I gave him a ride to the airport ... i have to pick him up wedsday at the airport ...

I am reseting mine right now i just redid my tank i have to take it off line again in a few days but it need it running right now ... I just put about 20 frags in there in the past week

everyone is saying korallin becuse it failsafe the pump is one top and it co2 locks if co2 over doses and dosent sent the co2 into your tank and the Reactor and it is really good on co2

And it will work on your big tank....

you want a cheap reactor Coralife Calcium Reactor is cheap

So, if I have a good needle valve and check pH on a regular basis in the beginning, I don't have to get a controller if I get the Korallin?

Once I find its sweet spot, I could check the pH weeky?
