Well, the tank has been running for 11 months now it houses one false perc, one roayal gramma, and a marine betta so far. there is also a frogspawn, some mushrooms, a couple of zoas and palys, and an acro.

the LFS just got in another purple long tentacle and we had to get it. it's about 6" across and we're picking it up tomorrow.

really i'm just looking for some general tips, what not to do's and things like that.

it's going in a 75 gal with about 90 gal total water volume with a sump and fuge together. mag 7 for a return and 2 koralia 3s for flow. the lighting is a nova extreme pro with the individually contoured reflectors. i don't remember what bulbs off hand, but i can post when i get home if it's a need to know thing.

thanks everybody

How deep is your sand bed?

Find a place in the sand right next to a rock where there isn't much water flow. Dig a hole in the sand and place your lta there. If healthy enough it shouldn't take long for it to attaching itself to the bottom of the tank or under the rock you placed the lta next to.

I feed my purple lta once a week small pieces of squid, sea scallops, raw shrimp, and mysis shrimp.

Make sure your koralia intakes are covered. To cover the intakes, you can use a plastic window screen that you can buy from lowes or home depot.

my sand bed is only about an inch deep, it's very shallow. i was planning on putting it on a rock so it would get plenty of light, is that a bad idea? the place i had pick(hoping it will stay there) has a recessed over hang s it would have room to retreat if it needed to adjust to the light.

M. Doreensis are sand dwelling anemones. I don't know if yours will stay put if you put it on the rocks. I keep my lta in the sand. If you don't have a deep sand bed. You can push a lot of the sand to one side of the tank or to the area where you want to place your lta. Some people have put their lta on the rocks not realising they like the sand. Their lta went on walking all over their rocks stinging corals. Some made it to the sand where they like to be and others made into powerheads.

i definitly didn't realize they are sand dwellers. about how much sand do they need? i'll have to move a couple of rocks around. will my light still be enough if its on the sand bed?

My sand is 4 or 5 inches deep on the side where the LTA is. They like no less than three inches of sand. LTAs like to go under the sand if they feel threatened. Some go under the sand at night if they aren't a host to an anemone fish.
What is the wattage on your lights..are these T5s?

yes, it is T5. i believe the total watts is 324. it's a 6 bulb fixture with 3 daylights and 3 actinics.

how fast do they move? would it be something where i would notice it moving a couple of inches a day or could it disappear in a couple of hours? i'm asking because we are probably going to try it on the rock and if it doesn't like it there give the sand a shot. there aren't any power heads that it could get to unless it climbed about 12 inches straight up a glass wall, or across the entire tank.

Normally when an LTA gets sucked into a powerhead they float into it not climb. T5s should be enough light for an LTA. It will be much happier in the sand next to a rock. I wouldn't know how fast they move on the rocks but I know they can move pretty quick under the sand.
