Any tips on getting good FTS?

I was wondering if any of the more experienced photographers could give me some tips on taking better full tank shots. I have limited knowledge and a newly aquired Canon 20D camera and I have been using it in the auto mode for the most part and have enjoyed the quality of the photos...but the FTS leave alot to be desired....IMO

Can any suggest tips or settings to improve the pics?

Here are some examples:

These type shots I am pretty happy with/color representation is pretty close:

1. Use a tripod
2. Make sure the camera is facing the glass perfectly perpendicular
3. Don't use flash
4. Turn off any other lights in the room

If you have to use flash, angle the shot so it doesn't reflect off the glass...but results will be compromised.
