Anybody ever seen these lights?

Someone offered me this exact set up for $150 plus a crap load of coral. Has anybody ever heard of or seen these setups?

Let me know what you guys think before I buy!

Thanks

It has power compact bulbs. Maybe I'll get a lot of differing opinions here, but I could not stand my power compacts. Aside from the inability to grow anything, poor color rendition, high heat, bad ballasts (three failures in 6 months) and poor quality lamp connections, the bulbs were impossible to clean from salt spray in between the two potions of the tube. That was my experience with the bulbs, others may actually like the power compacts. They only lasted with me for 6 months until I bought a much better light setup. Incidentally, the power compact I had was from custom sea life back in the day, but the lights may be much better now.

IMO, I would look into an HQI and T5 setup instead.

Wouldn't T5s have the same problems w/salt spray? Looks like a nice light to me, if the bulbs aren't already spent.

PCs have a folded glass envelope. Think T5 folded in half one or more times. The space between the lamps is difficult to clean.

I just used to pop them out and rinse them in the sink. It wasn't a big deal. I've had my custom sea life for years with no problems. I admit the color rendition used to be terrible because they didn't used to make a true actinic CF bulb but now they do and they were great. The only reason I'm selling my ballast is because I upgraded to a 120gal and the bulbs are only 24" 5watt.

But to each their own....:)

I have a fixture made by Ultra Light that I bought from Fishman350(John) it works awesome, and I actually bought a leg kit from that guy on ebay....all my stuff is doing awesome under it...The ballasts are quiet and run really cool

Yes, the T5 also need to be cleaned but they are far easier to clean. I hadn't thought about the rinse in the sink thing and since true actinic is now available, maybe it is a worthwhile option, especially at $150!

tang, What type of bulbs do you have in it?

It has 3 Ushio 250watt, and it had 4 65watt pcs that were 10k, I changed them out to actinics

I can post a pic when I get home if you would like to see how it looks on my tank

If you want similar go to Aquatraders online.
I would guess that heat might be an issue with that design. But if the price is right?

tang is right on.
