Anybody ever use the Kent Marine Pro Scraper 7" on acrylic?

My tank is getting bad..again.... With 36 square feet of viewing surface and coraline growing on almost every inch of it I really can't keep up. I've tried the flimsy long handle scrapers but it takes too much pressure. I had a really nice double edge hand-held I bought at That Fish Place but apparently it's been discontinued and I broke the last replacement head. Plus reaching down 2 feet and NOT hit the corals with my fat arms was tough.

I'm looking for something I can get real leverage on but with acrylic there are severe limitations.

Yes I've tried credit cards until I've cramped both d*mn hands...there has to be a better way. I'm curious if the Kent 7" wide hand held scraper is good for the tough stuff...I'm thinking it might not be based on the description (soft) and 2 reviews.

I've also heard of people using car ice scrapers, but that makes me nervous.

TIA

The thing I have found with the scraper I use on my tank is you really need to change the blade often. Once that edge is gone it is 10 times harder to get it to scrap anything.. I use a Kent Marine ProScraper 24-36" (probably the same one you tried) and it works pretty well with a fresh blade but I need to change the blade often. You really notice the difference from when you are putting all of your leverage into it and nothing comes off and when you put a fresh blade on it. they're relatively cheap But don't use the Kent blades use these instead. they're a better blade and I wish I would have found them sooner.

Thanks. I'm looking into ScrapeRite "plastic razor blades" too...trying to find somebody that used them successfully. Tried to pick some up at Lowes but struck out.

I buy a case Mr Clean magic erasers....I cut one in half and put them on my magnets....does a great job. It will not remove coraline that is off and running but I clean once a week so I havent had to worry about it much.

I've hear of others doing this also. I've never had the guts to try them on my tank...

I'm still waiting for him to post a link to where they sell those pads.

I think it's an Algae Dozer from Might Magnets..and I actually own one. I guess maybe it's time to replace it since I've had it for several years, but I don't really feel I've used it that much that it should need to be replaced already.

My issue with that pad is it's only as good as the strength of the magnet pulling on it. I have only have 1/2" acrylic and I own the F2 mighty magnet which is within the recommendations. I should have gotten the F4.

BTW...the MM is much better than the Mag Float...it's all I would use if it weren't for the obnoxious coraline.

I've used them for non-coraline removal as well. They still scare me because they are VERY abrasive...but I haven't used them enough to see if they haze long term.
