Anybody going to Cali soon?

I'm looking to finally get my temperate pico setup, but I would'nt feel right unless I use all native aquascaping materials (sand, rocks, shells, macros, etc...) I was just curiuous if anybody is going to California/the beach soon. I'd love to have some beach sand and maybe a few other above mentioned items, for a proper biotope. Just let me know and we can work something out (cash, frags, etc.) Locals only, please :)

Thanks,

Be careful about getting beach sand. The water right near shore is relatively polluted by urban run-off, oil and pesticides washing off of streets, ect. Not to mention the occasional beach closing due to E. coli issues. Just a thought...

How much are you looking for? My brother lives in California and is coming to town. It isn't legal to take sand/rock from most beaches but I will ask him to shake his shoes out....in a bag: ). Just to let you know a lot of California beach sand was brought in from other places. Much of the sand in sandiego was brought up from Mexico, idk about oc where he lives.

Thank Goose! Yeah, when I was growing up in San Diego, the beaches were closed fairly often because of those exact reason! Especially around the Mission Bay area. Brett, i'm pretty sure that Fiesta island and Mission Bay in SD is all man made! LOL. it's for my 3gallon pico, so maybe half a milk jug or so? http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/mpa_regs.asp#definitions Here's a link to some rules and whatnot when it comes to collecting things. I think as long as your brother doesn't gather from tide pools or marine preserves, he should be good :)
