Anybody have any sand?

To both of you, why sand?
I went bare bottom several months ago and it's great!
I was able to increase water flow and direct it where I needed it.
Keeping the tank clean now is super easy & the coral loves the flow that's needed to keep it clean.

I am debating on it, i really like the look of sand. or I may still use it in my refugium. It also buffers the system. I am not great at testing. So the little help it provides may be worth it. Also many wrasses's "need" it. And i have always liked pistol shrimp.

I'm setting up a clown/nem tank in my office. As Ted said, sand looks better and for this tank, I won't have a lot of flow. The new display at home won't have sand, but...

Jesse I remember you saying u were going to get into SPS, your not up and running yet?
I too also like the look of sand, gives it that real look. I have had sand for 30 years, thought I would give BB a try and I really like it. Sand was always hard to keep clean for me, I like it to be nice and white all the time.
The only sand that has done well for me is the DSB in my 90. I had 6 or so inches in there and It was always nice and clean. A few months ago I removed that as well, I did leave 2" as that tank is my LPS tank. I got a bunch of scolys and they seem to do good in the sand.
I know there are some fish that need sand, I would love to get another blue dot but I've killed way to many of them in past years.

Haven't had time to work on the new tank yet. The new display won't have sand. The nem tank in the office will. I have a cuke in the main tank that will go in the office tank. Never had any trouble keeping the sand clean.
